Apple plans to release an all-new iMac 2021 with an Apple Silicon chip later this year. At least that appears to be the case, as discovered by DaftCloud developer Dennis Oberhoff.

Oberhoff discovered an unreleased ARM-based iMac in the Xcode crash log of his app. Given that past iMacs have not used the ARM architecture, this can only mean that an Apple Silicon version is on the way, which can only be a good thing given the good performance of the MacBook Pro M1 and MacBook Air M1.

DaftCloud is a third-party SoundCloud application for macOS, and this screenshot shows the software crashing while running on an ARM iMac. This clearly means that the Apple Silicon iMac is not only making an appearance, but is being actively used by people behind the scenes.

9to5Mac investigated Oberhoff's crash report and concluded that this is legitimate. That is, the crashes are indeed occurring on ARM64 machines, and the device family is consistent with iMacs. However, the site notes that Apple has a history of cleaning up reports to avoid this type of leak. Therefore, there is not much else that can be read from this.

Of course, this is not the first time that the Apple Silicon iMac has been mentioned; in January, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that it would appear later this year; Gurman also said that the new machine would be "the biggest Apple product of the year It will be one of the biggest visual updates to an Apple product this year," he promised.

The iMac 2021 is said to feature a new mini LED display with thinner bezels, and the design itself may come in five colors.

In addition, Apple just discontinued the iMac Pro, meaning there is a gap in the lineup that the Apple Silicon iMac could easily fill. given the rumored Apple event in April, sooner or later a new iMac we may hear about.

Apple already seems to have a lot planned for this year, including the launch of a new iPad Pro series, an upgraded 16-inch MacBook Pro with M1 chip, an iPhone 13, and possibly a super-powerful M1X chip.
