Escape the boring zoom call — thanks to this genius new tool

Zoom Escaper will free you from video call nightmares Zoom Escaper will free you from video call nightmares.

This free web widget gives you access to a variety of noises that you can use as a plausible excuse for why you need to hang up on a video call immediately. These sound effects include a dog barking, a baby crying, and even one that distorts the audio to simulate a bad Internet connection.

Most of the sound effects included in the Zoom Escaper seem like a pretty decent excuse to disconnect a Zoom call, but as for the baby crying, you first have to convince your colleagues that there is a baby.

However, the included urination sound effects are unlikely to have any effect beyond being introduced to the HR department.

Installing Zoom Escaper is super easy. First, download the free audio software known as VB-Audio. This will allow you to route audio through the Zoom Escaper website. From there, all you have to do is change the audio output on the Zoom itself and apply your favorite effects.

The widget was created by Sam Lavigne, who has a reputation for creating quirky web applications, including one that scans your PC for Zoom and automatically deletes it.

He has also created websites that force your computer to run hot and slow to reduce your productivity and give you an excuse to take time off work.

In an interview with The Verge, Lavigne described the purpose behind his web program as "intentional slowdown, productivity and output reduction, and self-mutilation."

We have not yet tested Zoom Escaper ourselves, but we have a team meeting later today and will report back if there are more crying babies than usual.
