Kia EV6 is an all-electric crossover - and it looks stunning

Kia Motors has unveiled its new electric flagship model, the EV6.

This mid-size crossover is based on the same E-GMP platform as parent company Hyundai's upcoming Ioniq 5, but while the Ioniq has an angular, retro design, the EV6 is a more futuristic beast, its subtle curves and low profile gives it an exciting, sporty feel.

Full specs on the EV6 are still unknown, but the fact that it is built on the same E-GMP platform as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 gives some hints as to its potential.

Like the Ioniq 5, it is expected to use 800 V technology for ultra-fast charging of up to 220 kW, allowing it to charge from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes. It will also feature either a 58 kWh or 72.6 kWh battery pack, with the larger of the two expected to have a range of approximately 310 miles.

The E-GMP platform can accommodate both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive layouts, single-motor drive and dual-motor drive, so like the Ioniq 5, the EV6 could be available in several variants. With a top speed of 120 mph, it is likely to be the most powerful dual-motor, all-wheel-drive model.

The images show that the EV6's rear taillights, which extend to the rear, serve as a border to the truncated, almost cam-like tail.

The EV6 is the first fruition of a new design philosophy that Kia calls "Opposites United." It consists of five pillars: it is "Boldness for Nature," "Joy for Reason," "Power for Progress," "Technology for Life," and "Tension for Tranquility."

We're not sure about any of them, but they sure look pretty on the outside.

The Kia EV6's minimalist interior is somewhat unimpressive, but we like the look of the large, curved, dual-screen setup with the dashboard and infotainment screen.

The seats are slim and lightweight, and there seems to be plenty of legroom. And, as one would expect from an environmentally friendly electric car, all plastics used are 100% recycled.

Pricing has not yet been announced, but estimates based on the Ioniq 5 start at about $45,000, roughly the same price range as the Tesla Model 3.
