Samsung Galaxy A52 and A72 specs leaked just before launch

Samsung will hold a product launch this Wednesday (March 17) to unveil its new mid-range smartphones. But you don't have to wait until then to find out what the Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A72 will look like. That's because new renderings appeared just before the Galaxy Unpacked event.

The renderings come courtesy of Evan Blass, a leaker with an impeccable record, especially when it comes to inside information about Samsung phones. So it is reasonable to assume that these Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A72 images show actual phones, especially since the photos look like Samsung marketing materials.

The Galaxy A72 is the larger of the two new phones, which is expected to feature a 6.7-inch display; the image posted by Blass features four rear-facing cameras and a selfie camera on the front of the phone housed in a punch hole cutout in the center of the display The phone is shown; color options for the Galaxy A72 appear to be black, white, light blue, and violet.

As for the Galaxy A52, it also has four rear cameras and a selfie camera that peeks out from the top center of the display. Color options are the same as the Galaxy A72: black/white/light blue/violet.

The Blass leak also includes Samsung marketing materials advertising some of the phone's specs. The Galaxy A52 features a 48MP main camera with optical image stabilization. This is joined by a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera and dedicated macro and depth sensors; it is unclear whether the A72 will have the same camera specs, but Samsung mentions an "optimal 3x zoom," suggesting some sort of telephoto lens.

Other notable specs include battery size (4,500mAh for the A52 and 5,000mAh for the A72) and the fact that both phones will offer 5G versions. According to the slides, the A52 has 6G of RAM and 128GB of storage, expandable up to 1TB via a microSD slot; the Galaxy A52 (and possibly the A72) is IP67 water resistant and can be submerged at a depth of 3 meters for 30 minutes.

According to Blass, Samsung will also show off the Galaxy A32 at this week's Unpacked event. However, its specs are already known because its phones have already been released in several markets; the 6.4-inch A32 has an AMOLED panel for the 4G version and an LCD screen for the 6.5-inch 5G version; the 4G version has a fingerprint sensor in the display and the 5G A32 users have the sensor on the side of the phone; the 4G version also has a faster display refresh rate of 90 Hz.

Both versions of the Galaxy A32 have four rear cameras (main lens, ultra-wide, macro, and depth sensor) and a 5,000 mAh battery. The 5G version of the Galaxy A32 costs £249 in the UK.

There is no information from Blass about other products that may share the stage with the Galaxy A phone this Wednesday. Samsung is reportedly working on more folding phones and may show off its latest Galaxy Watch 4, but the company may concentrate on mid-range phones at the event, which kicks off at 10 a.m. ET on March 17.
