Cheap HBO Max with ads to launch on 6 May - What you Need to Know

HBO Max is one of the best streaming services, but also the most expensive at $15 per month. However, parent company Warner Media has revealed that an ad-supported version will be released this summer.

The news was announced at Warner Media's Analyst and Investor Day, where CEO Jason Killer said the new version will launch this June. The company made an $80 million advertising commitment for the service, revealing that it is more than ready to establish advertising breaks on its shows and movies, something HBO never did before Max/

The Hollywood Reporter, shared more notes from the Investors Day event, estimating 75 to 90 million in October 2019, now up to 120 to 150 million.

We see two possibilities for this new tier of HBO Max fees. A free tier would be great, but seems unlikely; Peacock is the only major streaming service with a free tier and original content, and HBO Max has significantly more reasons to sign up due to a number of big box office movies like "Snyder Cut," which airs next week Many. If HBO Max were to significantly restrict content to non-paying subscribers, the free tier would make more sense.

What seems likely is about $7 to $8 per month, about half the price of regular HBO Max. This would put the service in competitive territory with Disney Plus and standard HD-only Netflix, both of which have no advertising.

According to The Verge's Julia Alexander, Kilar does not expect HBO Max to add sports coverage this year.
