Forget the Clubhouse App - Twitter Space has just launched on Android

[Clubhouse, which is invitation-only and exclusive to iOS, is all the rage right now, but if voice-based social networking is your thing, it's not your only option; Twitter offers its own evolution of Clubhouse, Spaces, and its beta version is now available for Android

Twitter has also launched a beta version of Spaces on Android.

Twitter had been testing Spaces for several months, but it was only available on iOS. Now, however, it is available to Android users, making it more accessible, something Clubhouse has yet to achieve.

Like Clubhouse, Spaces is a feature that allows Twitter users to interact using their voices, a refreshing change of pace from the always impersonal text-based system Twitter has employed for the past 15 years.

Users create their own space and choose who has the right to speak. They can then discuss whatever comes to mind, much like amateur radio in the 2020s. Who is allowed to speak is entirely up to the host, with options such as allowing everyone to speak, allowing only those who are followed by the host, or allowing only those who are invited to speak The number of people allowed to speak in one space is limited to 10.

However, the space is open to the public, so anyone can participate and be heard. It is up to the host to remove or block those who do not want to be there. There is no limit to the number of people who can participate.

Unfortunately, while Spaces is now available for Android, some features are still missing. only iOS users can create their own rooms, and even then it is limited to a few users. Android users can join and speak if invited to a room, but are completely prohibited from creating rooms.

If you have not yet received a Clubhouse invite and would like to join Spaces, you can start here.

There are two ways to host Spaces on Twitter. One is to press and hold the Post button and tap the Spaces icon on the far left. The other is to go through Fleets and tap your profile picture. From there, scroll to the far right and tap Spaces.

You will then see an option to invite up to 10 speakers from Spaces, and all will be notified via DM. At this stage, you can also decide whether to give the right to speak to everyone who joins the room, only to those who follow you, or to the few people you have personally invited.

When ready, tap "Star Your Space" and allow access to the microphone when prompted.

If you join someone else's space without an invite, it should appear at the top of your timeline. That space is in the same place as the fleet you continue to ignore.
