The new PS5 video proves that couch co-op is not dead

Online gaming can be a lot of fun, but sometimes nothing beats split-screen play with your buddies on the couch.

Games that support local multiplayer have been rare in recent years, but Sony has taken the opportunity to show off the breadth of local co-op play that can be experienced on the PS5 in a new trailer.

In the trailer, which is just over a minute long, are "FIFA 21," "Sackboy: FIFA 21," "Sackboy: A Big Adventure," "Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War," and "Dirt 5."

The frighteningly realistic basketball sim "NBA 2K21" and the charming puzzle game "Overcooked" are also featured: "All You Can Eat" is also featured in the sizzle reel.

Animated graphics are inserted into the B-roll of each game to showcase the unique features of the PS5's dual-sense controller. From haptic feedback to adaptive triggers, these are features that not even the Xbox Series X controller can match.

Haptic vibration feedback is especially noticeable in "FIFA 21," where you can literally feel the ball drop off the crossbar after a powerful shot. Adaptive triggers, on the other hand, show their true value in "Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War," where the degree of resistance on the trigger changes, making each gun feel different to fire.

It is definitely a well put together trailer, and we are very pleased that Sony is keen to highlight the local multiplayer experience available on the PS5 console.

It is a little disappointing, however, that the trailer only highlights the games released with the PS5 in November 2020. There is no footage of any upcoming games, which is a shame as I was hoping to learn that local multiplayer has a strong future on the console.

Nevertheless, it is nice to see such a beloved feature being highlighted in the latest edition of PlayStation's marketing materials.
