Samsung is reportedly working on a new Windows 10 laptop with both its own Exinos system-on-a-chip and AMD's integrated Radeon graphics; according to ZDNet Korea, this ARM-based laptop likely to be released later this year.

The M1-based MacBook Pro and M1-based MacBook Air indicate that ARM laptops are ready to enter their prime, but products with comparable performance to Windows have yet to appear. Samsung may be trying to change this situation by mimicking Apple's strategy of developing its own processors.

The Samsung-AMD partnership actually began in 2019 with the apparent intention of including AMD's Radeon graphics technology in Samsung smartphones; ZDNet Korea's report is so far unconfirmed, but a laptop with integrated Radeon graphics It is easy to imagine that a SoC for PCs could come out of this partnership; Exynos chips have long powered Samsung phones and tablets, including the latest Samsung Galaxy S21 (not yet available in the US).

The report mentioned an entirely new SoC for laptops, dubbed the Exynos 2200. No other specs were included, but it appears that Samsung will also manufacture the laptop's display, memory, battery, and storage in-house. This means that the laptop may be equipped with Samsung's OLED laptop screen, which was announced in January.

It is worth remembering that such a laptop is not Samsung's first foray into ARM-based Windows 10 notebooks: it has already dabbled with the Samsung Galaxy Book S last year. A more bespoke design might narrow the performance gap between the current Windows 10 ARM laptop and the very powerful M1 MacBook.

If this laptop is as far along in development as this report suggests, Samsung is expected to announce it in late 2021. Interestingly, ZDNet Korea also claims that it will be announced after the release of Samsung's Galaxy Note 21.
