Disney Plus Star Channel Launch: TV shows, movies, etc.

Disney Plus' Star channel is coming and will make Disney Plus a more interesting platform (but only if you are not in the US). As long as this channel comes to your area, the Disney Plus catalog will grow exponentially and your parental control options will increase.

Announced in December 2020, the Disney Plus Star channel will add a large number of TV shows and movies to the streaming service. This means that Star will bring stronger parental controls to Disney Plus.

The Walt Disney Company owns far more content than what is available on Disney Plus. In the U.S., however, Disney already has a way to distribute shows and movies licensed through Hulu (which it owns) and elsewhere. So Disney decided to add a new section (or channel) to Disney Plus outside the US.

And you don't even have to do anything to get it, except have a Disney Plus account. The Star channel is in the same row as the Disney, Marvel, National Geographic, Pixar, and Star Wars icons Star Channel appears in the same row as Disney, Marvel, National Geographic, Pixar, and Star Wars icons.

This means that Disney Plus has all the same Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, and Disney movies that are already there, plus many more that are not quite PG. This includes many shows that Americans can watch on Hulu - since Hulu is only in the US

including "Love, Victor," a series that was originally titled "Love, Simon" and almost landed on Disney Plus in the US Included in the list. Not all Hulu shows are coming, and the gender-swapped "High Fidelity" series, which followed a similar trajectory to "Love, Victor," is not coming to Star.

"Grey's Anatomy," "Pretty Woman," and "The Favourite" will also air on Hulu, but none of them are "family-friendly." So how does this work?

The Disney Plus Star channel will not come to the US, but will be available virtually everywhere else. The first to launch will be in the UK, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.

Star Channel launched on Disney Plus in select international markets on February 23.

And because Star is not an optional add-on, it comes with a price increase. In the UK, the monthly fee will go from £5.99 to £7.99 and the annual fee from £59.99 to £79.90.

Active subscribers will maintain their existing payment prices until August 23, 2021. If their membership lapses during this period, they will renew at the higher price.

The monthly fee in Australia will be AU$8.99 to AU$11.99 and the annual payment will be AU$89.99 to AU$119.99.

The Disney Plus Star channel offers an array of non-kid-friendly content, including Family Guy, The Savages, Super Troopers, and 24. This means that Disney Plus is getting serious about parental controls.

Currently, user accounts can be restricted by age rating and parental accounts can be locked with a PIN number.

Let's say you don't have children or your taste in movies doesn't lean toward Disney-owned ones. Sure, Star Wars and Marvel movies are fun, but are they worth the monthly payment alone?

Star Channel makes Disney Plus a little more mature and a little less niche. Without losing the treasure trove of family-friendly content that has earned this streaming service millions of subscribers.

We have obtained a complete list of launch dates for Star Channel content in the UK and Ireland. However, not all of these TV shows and movies may be available in all regions, as the selection of stations may vary by region.

In addition to the shows and movies listed below, Star is also where huge Hulu exclusives like the Dopesick miniseries and new Kardashian Jenners content will debut in the UK

Four shows are Star marked as Originals, but are actually from other sources; Big Sky is currently airing on ABC in the U.S., while The Kardashian Jenners is currently airing on Hulu in the U.S. Helstrom," "Solar Opposites," and "Love, Victor" are Hulu Originals.

And while much of this list consists of familiar Hulu shows ("American Dad," "Prison Break," "How I Met Your Mother"), there are others outside of Hulu's back catalog. [For example, "The Hot Zone" (starring Julianna Margulies and Noah Emmerich) is available on DirecTV On Demand in the US, and "Valley of the Boom" (starring Steve Zahn, Bradley Whitford and Ramone Morris) on Fubo and DirecTV
