New ThinkPad X13 Pack Two big Upgrades I had my MacBook Pro

Lenovo's latest ThinkPad X13 (and the new X13 Yoga, T14 and T15 ThinkPads) have some pretty cool new technology that improves wellness at work. It's called "Glance" and includes two new features I wish my MacBook Pro had.

And all you need for these features is an IR webcam. The first setting, 20/20 Alert, is designed to prevent eye strain. If you find yourself looking at a screen for 20 minutes, it will alert you to look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

It also alerts you to correct your posture. This is not a new bad habit, but in the age of remote work, everyone spends more time sitting at the computer, so the risk of developing this habit is increasing.

Most of the following models, the ThinkPad X13 and the second generation of the T14, T14S, and 15, will be equipped with Intel or AMD processors, respectively. This way we can finally see what's inside. Not all configurations will have IR webcams, so please double check at checkout.

One of the biggest changes to this year's ThinkPad X13 series is in and around the display; Lenovo has decided on a 16:10 aspect ratio for this model, moving away from the shorter 16:9 screens of past generations. This also allowed Lenovo to reduce the bezel size of the display.

In addition to the Glance feature for posture and vision, Lenovo has also added a few new privacy tricks: Human Presence Detection (on Intel models only) takes the hassle out of logging in and out of your laptop,

Lenovo has also added a new feature called "Glance" to the display,

which allows users to see the screen as it is being used.

Available on both the X13 and X13 Yoga, the camera notices when you leave the system, automatically locks the system, and can even turn off the system. When the camera notices your human presence, the system turns back on and enables automatic login via Windows Hello. Of course, this feature is not available if you have ThinkShutter Privacy Guard enabled, which blocks the webcam.

Lenovo has also widened the touchpad and upgraded the touchpad's click feel. Speaking of clickiness, the power button now doubles as a fingerprint reader, freeing up space on the keyboard deck.

The X13 also supports optional 5G connectivity (but less than 6G); 4G is available on both the X13 and X13 Yoga.

The ThinkPad X13 (12 x 8.6 x 0.7 inches, 2.6 pounds) is the lighter of the two, while the X13 Yoga (12 x 84 x 0.6 inches, 2.7 pounds) is thinner.

The Intel-based X13i will be available in March 2021, starting at $1,299; the AMD-based X13 will be available in May 2021, starting at $1,139; the X13 Yoga (Intel-powered only) will be available in April 2021, starting at $1,379; and the AMD-based X13 will be available in May 2021, starting at $1,139.

ThinkPad T14, T14s, and T15 models now feature front-firing speakers for more powerful sound. These systems also support Dolby Vision and Dolby Audio for higher quality streaming. There is also a display option with low blue light filtering to protect the eyes while maintaining color accuracy.

These new T-series ThinkPads support Glance for posture and visual alerts, but only the T14s have Human Presence Detection, which the X13 and X13 Yoga have.

If the T14 is purchased in traditional black (rather than Storm Gray aluminum), there is an option to apply an antimicrobial coating. It is hard to imagine a gadget these days that does not want such an option.

The new T series comes in three models, with the 14-inch T14s (12.9 x 8.8 x 0.6 inches, 2.8 pounds) being the thinnest and lightest; the ThinkPad T14 (12.9 x 8.9 x 0.7 inches, 3.2 pounds) is thicker and heavier; the 15-inch ThinkPad T 15 (14.4 x 9.8 x 8 inches, 3.9 pounds) is the heaviest.

Intel-based ThinkPad T14 laptops will arrive in March 2021, with the T14 version starting at $1,379, the T14s model starting at $1,499, and the T15 at $1,379.

AMD-based ThinkPad T14 models will arrive in May 2021, with the T14 starting at $1,159 and the T14s at $1,279; the AMD-powered T15 will not appear; the T14s will start at $1,499; and the T15 will start at $1,379.
