Nubia Red Magic 6 has four huge upgrades to fight ROG Phone 5

Nubia has announced a number of new details about its upcoming gaming smartphone, the Red Magic 6. A company executive posted the news of the official announcement on Chinese social media Weibo on March 4.

According to GSM Arena, the post was accompanied by an illustrated poster featuring a race car and four icons. The icons, in addition to the information being spread around the internet, show the "four fastest" features that the Nubia Red Magic 6 will have; judging by Nubia's track record with gaming smartphones, the Red Magic 6 should deliver in terms of performance and premium options.

We particularly enjoyed Nubia's previously released, affordable Red Magic Mars, which is a great example of the company's commitment to the gaming market, and we're looking forward to seeing more of it in the near future. It also featured an LED RGB strip on the back and tactile feedback buttons. The Red Magic 6, however, seems to be aiming for a more impressive status. The following is purportedly what it is.

According to a "reliable source" at GizmoChina, the Red Magic 6 will feature a 144Hz refresh rate. Most recently, Asus' ROG Phone 3 and ROG Phone Strix were also up to 144Hz, so the Red Magic 6 will not be the "fastest" on the market, but it will certainly be another option that offers a higher refresh rate.

The Nubia Red Magic 6 will reportedly feature an electrifying touch response rate of 480Hz; devices like the Xiaomi Black Shark 2 only support up to 240Hz, so if these specs are correct, the Red Magic 6 be unmatched among those already on the market. Touch response differs from refresh rate in that it measures the time it takes for the user to receive feedback from the device after input; since the Red Magic 6 is being developed as a mobile gaming platform, a quick input response is required.

Nubia previously announced that the Red Magic 6 would feature a high-capacity 4,500mAh battery that supports 120W gallium nitride fast charging; only the Pro model will feature this fast charging option. The regular version will have 66W fast charging instead.

A final feature that the Nubia Red Magic 6 may include is a built-in cooling fan. This would help enhance high-performance sessions for extended periods of time without the risk of overheating; the 'Red Magic Mars' had dual liquid and air cooling options with copper tubing to keep heat away from the CPU and GPU. There were also multiple vents on the back to cool the unit; it is unclear if the Red Magic 6 will feature any other cooling systems.

As with the Nubia Red Magic 5, the presence of vents makes it likely that waterproofing will not be included.

In addition to these four features, the Red Magic 6 could follow in the footsteps of its predecessor and include a rear LED strip and additional enhancements. And like the Red Magic 5, the phone will likely sell in the $650 range; ZTE has yet to confirm anything other than that it will be announced on March 4. After that, we will have a better idea of what to expect from the new phone.
