Asus has yet to officially announce its next gaming phone - that will be next month - but we've already gotten some specific details on what to expect from the ROG Phone 5, including its design and mobile processor.

That latest ROG Phone 5 information comes courtesy of DxOMark, which evaluates mobile devices' camera and audio performance. In this instance, DxOMark is testing the audio capabilities of the upcoming phone, and its initial ROG Phone 5 review shows some important details about what Asus has included in this device.

For example, according to the DxOMark review, the ROG Phone 5 will feature the Snapdragon 888 system-on-chip; the Snapdragon 888 is Qualcomm's top-of-the-line processor, and its inclusion in a high-performance gaming phone like the ROG Phone 5 is It's only natural that it would be included in a high-performance gaming phone like the ROG Phone 5. Still, aside from the ROG Phone 5 benchmark leak, we have no official information on which chipset Asus plans to use, so DxOMark's review confirms our prediction. [The Snapdragon 888 is found in phones like the Samsung Galaxy S21, which debuted last month. Gaming capabilities are a central part of Qualcomm's latest system-on-chip, and the Snapdragon 888 can deliver a 30% improvement in gameplay performance over last year's chipset.

The ROG Phone 5 also features a 3.5mm headphone jack. A few years ago, this detail might not have deserved special attention, but in an era when handset makers are increasingly removing audio ports from their devices to save space (and to boost sales of wireless headphones), the ROG Phone 5 is a good example, distinctly different from this trend.

DxOMark's report on the ROG Phone 5's audio performance also gives a good look at the phone's design. In addition to the front display (expected to be a 6.6" panel), the ROG Phone 5 features a secondary screen on the back, confirming previous leaks about the device. although it is difficult to tell from the images posted by DxOMark, the ROG Phone 5's bezel appears to be very thin, except for the prominent bezel at the top of the device. (DxOMark reports that the ROG Phone 5's audio features dual front-facing speakers at the top and bottom of the device. Other audio features include Dirac Tuning Technology for frequency response correction and Virtual Bass Technology.

These features should result in a sweet-sounding phone, and DxOMark gave the ROG Phone 5 its highest ever score for audio, beating out the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, which topped the list of best audio.

Asus plans to unveil the ROG Phone 5 at an online event on March 10 at 6 a.m. ET. This is the fourth version of the gaming phone, but Asus confirmed that it will jump from the ROG Phone 3 to the ROG Phone 5.
