PS5 Horizon Forbidden West can be launched with PSVR 2

Prominent PlayStation VR developers appear to be hiring for big-budget VR games, and all signs point to "Horizon Forbidden West" being the franchise of choice.

In a deleted job ad, developer Firesprite, the development team behind PSVR titles like "The Persistence" and "Playroom VR," is looking to "work on a multi-million selling action RPG worldwide and create a full form 3D modeler" to create PlayStation VR games, was looking for a 3D modeler.

Given that there are few multi-million selling action RPGs recognized globally from Sony, the upcoming "Horizon Forbidden West" seems to be the most likely candidate for a VR spin-off.

The reason Firesprite feels it is working on a Sony IP rather than a third party is the studio's close relationship with the Tokyo-based electronics giant. Firesprite is an in-house first party development known for its "Wipeout" series Firesprite is a spin-off from the now-defunct SCE Studio Liverpool, the in-house first-party development team known for the Wipeout series.

Not only was Firesprite handed the reins of development for The Playroom VR, a free PSVR game that showcases the headset's capabilities. The job ad was quickly removed when fans on the forum ResetEra began to speculate that Horizon was also suspect.

On Firesprite's website, the studio is also looking for a lead producer for an action-adventure game. It states, "This is a very exciting project, partnering with IP holders to create an entirely new chapter in the exciting and highly original world they have established, taking full advantage of the immersive capabilities of VR to build new stories for fans and newcomers alike.

This is also close to the 2019 rumors that suggested Horizon could get the VR treatment.

Of course, none of this is confirmed, only speculation. The only other highly successful Sony action RPG that comes to mind is "Bloodborne," but playing that game in VR would likely be nauseating.

In any case, expect the updated PSVR 2 to be included with any VR adventure on PS5. The current PSVR is an affordable way to dive into virtual reality, but the technology is now old and lagging far behind other affordable headsets like the Oculus Quest 2
