Meta Boost Quest Pro with more exclusive features over Quest 2

Meta has rolled out v47 updates (open in new tab) to both the $1,500 Quest Pro and the (relatively) cheap and cheerful Quest 2. However, the most game-changing one is reserved for Meta's flagship virtual reality headset.

The Quest Pro has two major updates that further solidify its position as the best VR headset Meta sells.

The first of these could make a big difference for those who want to enjoy a relaxing experience in VR, and we hope it will eventually be reflected in the entry-level headset.

Background audio playback allows sound to be played from the headset's browser or any 2D panel app. This means you can relax and enjoy VR golf or fishing while listening to your favorite podcast in the background.

There is no technical reason why this cannot be done with Quest 2, but perhaps Meta is cautious about making this possible on a headset with less raw processing power; Quest 2 (and Quest 1) may simply not have the capacity for multitasking.

The second change will always be exclusive to Quest Pro to take advantage of its mixed reality credentials. It can now record the real world environment as well as what is happening in the virtual environment. Previously, the real-world environment was displayed as a black background in the recording.

The remaining changes come with every Quest in the world, but they are fairly unremarkable, given that the two basic Quest headsets were released two and three years ago, respectively, and have undergone game-changing updates over the years. perhaps it's no surprise.

This time around, Meta has added the ability to publish a store wish list to encourage gifting, along with changes to the mobile app. In addition, a widget has been added to display the battery status of the headset and controller.

Finally, Horizon Home (the hub that appears when the headset is activated) now has a mirror that allows users to easily change their virtual avatar.

Minor enhancements, but at least updates are still forthcoming. For more significant improvements, we may have to wait for Meta Quest 3.
