iPhone14Pro Max has Secret Wireless Charging Upgrade

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro brought several upgrades compared to the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro. However, there may have been some subtle MagSafe charging upgrades that Apple did not mention previously.

According to tests conducted and published by ChargerLAB (opens in new tab), when compared to the iPhone 13 Pro Max, the iPhone 14 Pro Max, when powered through Apple's proprietary MagSafe charging pack, is faster, higher peak speeds and charges for longer periods of time.

MagSafe for iPhone has had an official rating of 15W (when using a 20W wall charger) since its debut with the iPhone 12 (though slower with the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini). However, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is still an improvement over its predecessor, taking 2 hours and 18 minutes to reach full charge, compared to 2 hours and 26 minutes for the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The same is true in the 30-minute sprint test, where the iPhone 14 Pro Max reaches 35% full charge The iPhone 13 Pro Max lags behind at 30%, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max reaches 35% full.

This slight difference was also seen in our own wired charging test: the iPhone 14 Pro Max charged to 42% in 30 minutes, compared to 40% for the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

This speed increase may be attributed to the iPhone 14 Pro's A16 chipset and changes in power and thermal management within the battery. The difference in battery size may also have a small impact. According to third-party teardowns, the iPhone 14 Pro Max has a 4,323mAh battery, while the iPhone 13 Pro Max uses a 4,352mAh battery.

The enhanced MagSafe speed will not be a big enough difference to justify an upgrade or make iPhone 14 Pro Max owners jealous, but it is still an advantage of the new model that Apple has not disclosed.
