New FCC certification (opens in new tab) has surfaced for the Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus, and it looks like good news.

The listing model numbers are SM-S911B and SM-S916B, believed by MySmartPrice (opens in new tab) to be the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus, respectively. According to that listing, both models are equipped with Qualcomm's system-on-a-chip. This is most likely the newly revealed Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, although Samsung is said to be getting a custom version

The Galaxy S23's battery is 3,900 mAh, 200 mAh more than the Galaxy S22's 3,700 mAh. In a test where the Galaxy S22 screen was set to 150 nits, surfing the web with a 5G cellular connection, and used until power ran out, the Galaxy S22 logged 7 hours 51 minutes in adaptive mode.

A 200mAh upgrade may not be that big an upgrade. However, combined with the efficiency improvements promised by the new chipset, the Galaxy S23 should have a longer battery life than the previous model.

The Galaxy S23 Plus is expected to use a 4,700mAh battery, 200mAh more than the Galaxy S22 Plus battery. The previous phone logged 9 hours and 46 minutes in tests in adaptive mode. Again, with more power in reserve, a new chip and perhaps better energy-saving measures, the Galaxy S23 Plus should offer an upgrade in battery life that will push it into our best smartphone battery life list.

According to the FCC list, 25W fast charging is also likely to be included again in the Samsung Galaxy flagship. This means that the 45W charging of the Galaxy S22 Ultra may not be reflected in the Galaxy S23.

Samsung fans should be ready in February, since that is when the Korean tech giant looks to unveil the Samsung Galaxy S23 series.

February has been touted for some time as the likely launch date for Samsung's next flagship Android phone, while conflicting rumors hint January for a potential launch date. However, a new report in the Korea JoongAng Ilbo, citing inside information from a Samsung executive, states that the Galaxy S23 series will be revealed in early February in the US at one of Samsung's Unpacked events.

This would tend to confirm other rumors we have seen and would coincide with a February 2022 launch of the Galaxy S22 series; the Galaxy S21 was launched in January, which is rather exceptional, and the Galaxy S series flagship model will be launched in February or later The Galaxy S21 was released in January, but this is rather exceptional, as most of the flagship models in the Galaxy S series are released in February or later in spring.

The Galaxy S23 lineup is expected to consist of the standard Galaxy S23, the Galaxy S23 Plus offering a larger display, and the Galaxy S23 It is expected to consist of the Ultra. We have yet to discover an FCC listing for the Galaxy S23 Ultra, but it is expected to be very similar to its predecessor. The main upgrade touted by tech sources is a 200 megapixel camera.

More megapixels does not necessarily mean better photo quality. But similarly, being able to capture more detail and having more light-absorbing range really gives the Galaxy S23 Ultra a photo upgrade over its predecessors, the iPhone 14 Pro Max in our best camera phone list and the Google Pixel 7 Pro can take it.

With 2023 looming, it won't be long now until the Galaxy S23 series is showcased. However, it is a contender for the top spot on our best phones list and needs to bring its A-game to offer a compelling upgrade to current Galaxy S phone users.
