Google Pixel Watch was tilted to make your life easier with Calendar and Gmail

The Google Pixel Watch was a surprise product this holiday season. At one point, we saw a $50 discount on the smartwatch, which had been on sale for less than two months. While those deals are no longer available, we may be getting some additional features.

A source revealed to 9to5Google that the Gmail and Google Calendar apps are coming to the Pixel Watch. This would be a step up from the current experience of using the Agenda app for the Pixel Watch calendar and accessing Gmail only through notifications. Sources tell 9to5Google that these new apps will offer the full experience of both productivity features, but nothing has yet been revealed about the user interface or functionality.

And there's even better news - you don't even need to have a Pixel Watch to get this upgrade. Both apps are said to be developed by Google with the Pixel Watch in mind, and these are said to be Wear OS apps. In other words, if you currently own the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5, the top Android smartwatch, you should get this great productivity upgrade.

Currently, the Google Pixel Watch's productivity experience is a bit flat. Currently, the only way to access email is either when it arrives or in the main notification feed. The lack of a complete email app is, frankly, a bit surprising. Not only does Apple have a complete email client for the Apple Watch, but it also has a complete email app for Wear OS. Instead, it's the Outlook app from Microsoft.

The calendar feature is another odd shortcoming. Google uses the Agenda app and Google Assistant to handle all calendar workflow. Samsung, on the other hand, has a complete calendar app for the Galaxy Watch that also integrates with the existing Google Calendar. This is the main reason I use Samsung Calendar on my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra instead of Google Calendar.

Despite its lack of productivity, the Google Pixel Watch is a great watch. It has a clean, minimalist design and offers a Fitbit fitness tracking experience with an optimized Wear OS. The battery life is probably the biggest drawback - it may or may not last a day - but if you want the ultimate Google experience on your wrist, this is the watch for you.

The Cyber Monday sale is over, but there is still a chance that the Pixel Watch will be available in the future. If you don't want to pay full price, be sure to check out the Pixel Watch deals.
