James Gunn reveals DCU's first 10 movies and shows- Superman: Legacy, Batman and Robin etc

Well, yes. James Gunn has announced that a Superman and Batman movie is coming soon for DCU Chapter 1. He also announced a ton of other movies and shows for DCU Chapter 1 (the MCU's equivalent of "Phases"), and the "title" of DCU Chapter 1 is "Gods and Monsters."

Gunn explains it all in the video below, and he also kindly talks about upcoming DC movies ("The Flash," "Shazam/Wrath of the Gods," "Aquaman 2," "Blue Beetle"). Gunn also explained how the DCU will coexist with other unorthodox DC movies and shows. There is "Batman 2" (scheduled for release on October 3, 2025) and "Joker 2: Folly a Do."

Gunn called "Superman: Legacy" "the true beginning of the DCU." The film, which he will write, is not an origin story for Superman. The release date was announced as July 11, 2025.

Peter Safran was quoted by Deadline (open in new tab) as saying that the film "will focus on Superman balancing his human origins with his Kryptonian heritage. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American Way, kindness in a world that considers kindness old-fashioned. That Superman has not yet been cast.

This is not the previously announced title of J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates' Black Superman (which exists as an Elseworlds DC title).

DC currently has two Batmen, one of whom has his own son in the role of Robin. In the film The Brave and the Bold, based on Grant Morrison's Batman arc, Bruce Wayne appears as Batman and his son Damian Wayne appears as Robin.

Neither role has yet been cast, and director Gunn (open in new tab) has said that Damian is a "little shit." Bruce has not known Damian for 8-10 years since he was born, and the child is an assassin and murderer, which would obviously conflict with Bruce's rules of engagement.

HBO's Max series "The Lanterns," which Gunn described as similar to "True Detective," is about the Lantern Company, specifically Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart. Gunn said that "several other Lanterns will appear" throughout the series, which is a "terrestrial" series (read: on Earth). The Lanterns will discover a "terrifying" mystery that will lead to a larger overall storyline in the first DCU chapter.

Comic book cult hero Booster Gold would get an HBO Max series about an "underdog" (Gunn's words) hero who travels back in time to the present day to find love from the masses. Gunn called this "the superhero version of con artist syndrome."

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is an epic science fiction film about a jaded Supergirl who did not have the same loving childhood that Superman/Kal-El received. Supergirl did not have the same loving childhood that Superman/Kal-El had. Adapted from Tom King's "Supergirl" serial.

There is also a "very dark horror story" film about the origins of Swamp Thing, which is tonally outside the DCU.

Elsewhere, there is an animated TV series called "Creature Commandos," which is very similar to James Gunn's standard project since it is about a group of weirdos. The series features Weasel from "Suicide Squad" and Rick Flagg's father, Rich Flagg Sr. The script was written by Gunn, and the major characters that will appear in the future will be portrayed by the same actors who voice them here - as Gunn and Saffron are pushing for unity throughout the non-Elsewhere world of the DCU.

Waller will be revived in a live-action TV series with Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, working with members of Team Peacemaker. Gunn called it "an out-of-this-world fantastic story."

"Authority" is a film based on the character of Wildstorm. A passion project for Gunn, it portrays a superhero who interacts with all the major characters in the DCU. According to Gunn, the Authority "believes the world is broken and wants to fix it by any means necessary." He believes it is "a very different way of looking at superheroes."

Paradise Lost is a live-action TV series, intended to be similar to Game of Thrones. It's about Wonder Woman's hometown, Paradise Island, known as Temiskila.
