There may only be 1 GOOGLE Pixel tablet — Do NOT expect OLED

Google is working on a Pixel Tablet to accompany the Google Pixel series, and according to tipster Kuba Wojciechowski (opens in new tab), they are apparently working on two versions of the slate, but only one will launch He says it may be.

It was previously rumored that there would be both a base version and a "pro" model of the Pixel Tablet, but Wojciechowski refuted this claim by citing Google's code commit.

Originally code-named "Tangor" and "TangorPro," these names are the base tablet with the first-generation Google Tensor chip and the "Pro" with the Tensor G2 chip that was impressive in the Google Pixel 7 models, which are believed to have been assigned to the model.

Kuba Wojciechowski now believes that the only Pixel tablet expected to hit the market this year will be the one with the G2 Tensor chip, making the base model obsolete.

In addition, Wojciechowski has provided an alleged image of the tablet, which he posted on Twitter. In the image, the tablet is placed in a dock similar to the Google Nest, with a rear camera on the upper right and a front camera on the long side, and no physical home button like the recent iPad generation.

Wojciechowski also claims some assumed specs for the Pixel Tablet. The tablet will have 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage and will probably have an LCD display; Wojciechowski found evidence of a display driver "normally used to drive the backlight layer of an LCD," so an OLED panel . seems unlikely.

There is currently no OLED iPad, but it seems only a matter of time before Apple puts this technology in a tablet. If Google wants to establish the Pixel as one of the best Android tablets or compete with Apple, future models will definitely need to feature OLEDs.

The Pixel Tablet was first announced in May 2022, but details about the tablet were hard to find, other than a listing on FaceBook's Marketplace. Hopefully, Google will finally launch this tablet this year and bring new competition to the iPad family.
