DC's TV portfolio has been shrinking for the past year, and it looks like it will shrink even more: as reported by The Hollywood Reporter (opens in new tab), "Titans" and "Doom Patrol" will end after their fourth seasons.

Given the turmoil at DC Studios and HBO Max, this news is not particularly surprising. According to sources, producers of both shows "saw the writing on the wall" and planned accordingly. Therefore, both shows, Doom Patrol and Titans, will probably have a "proper ending" that will give fans some closure.

This is true of other DC shows that have ended their broadcasts rather abruptly, without a word of goodbye. Fortunately, "Titans" and "Doom Patrol" were renewed before the disruption and culling began in earnest, apparently giving the creative team ample warning that a fifth season was not guaranteed.

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, a spokesperson for HBO Max said, "While 'Titans' and 'Doom Patrol' are in their final seasons, we are very proud of these series and are excited for fans to see the climactic ending to We are very proud of these series and are excited for fans to see the climactic endings."

He then thanked the creators behind both shows and the fans who tuned in to both shows and "invested time and time again in their trials, tribulations, and legendary battles to save the world." Greg Berlanti, producer of both shows and former CW heavyweight for DC television, echoed these comments in his own statement.

For those wondering, there are not many DC TV shows left. While "The Flash" will end after its ninth season, "Superman & Lois" and "Peacemaker" will air at least one more. It is unclear what will happen to "Pennyworth," which just finished its third season, or whether viewers will respond to The CW's "Gotham Nights," which premieres on March 14.

Other shows are reportedly in development, including two spinoffs of Matt Reeves' "Batman," but it is unclear what the status of these shows actually is or will be.

DC is currently in a state of flux, and it is not clear whether its strange mishmash of content will survive or whether the new team at DC Studios will try to incorporate more content into the upcoming reboot of the DC cinematic universe. So don't be surprised if DC's few remaining live-action TV shows are in the crosshairs in the next year or so.

But at least there is still animation. Harley Quinn is a must-see and is confirmed to return for a fourth season. Batman: Caped Crusader, by the same team that developed Batman the Animated Series, was also unceremoniously dumped by HBO Max, but hopefully it will find a place.

The fourth season of Titans began last November on HBO Max, with part one concluding on December 1. Season 4 of Doom Patrol premiered later that week, with part 1 concluding on January 5. The respective final episodes of each show will be available for unspecified distribution on HBO Max later this year.
