Cobra Kai Season 6 is the last chapter - but the spinoff may be on the way

Cobra Kai will never die: ...... At least not in spirit. But the hit Netflix series will end with "Cobra Kai" Season 6.

Creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg announced the news in an open letter to fans (opens in new tab).

"Our goal on day one of 'Cobra Kai' was always to leave the Valley at the time and place we always imagined it would be and finish it on our terms," they wrote.

"This may be a bittersweet day for fandom, but the Miyagiverse is stronger than ever... We hope we can tell more Karate Kid stories with you in the days ahead: for Cobra Kai will never die.

This almost confirms that more spin-offs set in the world of The Karate Kid are in the works. As Schlossberg previously told TVLine (opens in new tab), "Every permutation of spin-offs and deep dives crosses our minds. It all has to be right, and it has to be on the same level of quality as 'Cobra Kai.'"

"Cobra Kai" has been a Netflix hit since its transition from YouTube Red to Netflix in August 2020. The show follows former teenage enemies Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) decades after their infamous martial arts battle in the first "Karate Kid" film.

When Johnny reopens his old Cobra Kai dojo to teach a new generation of students, their old, though not necessarily wise, rivalry is revived. Daniel accordingly reopened Miyagikido, and their students clashed on the mats and in the school.

Over the course of several seasons, their long-standing feud gradually turns into a quasi-friendship as they face more sadistic villains: Johnny's old teacher John Cleese and business tycoon Terry Silver.

In Season 6, they team up again to take on a new challenge: the international competition "Sekai Taikai."

The creators have announced that the final chapter will be "the biggest season in Cobra Kai history." All of the main players will appear, and there will likely be cameos from the "Karate Kid" films. Over the course of the season, familiar faces have appeared, including Elizabeth Shue as Ali Mills, Yuji Okumoto as Chozen, Thomas Ian Griffiths as Terry Silver, and Sean Kanan as Mike Burns.

Many fans are expecting an important guest star: Hilary Swank, who headlined "The Next Karate Kid. "In an interview with Fandom (opens in new tab), Hurwitz said, "What we can say about her is that we We love Hilary Swank. I think she's a phenomenal actress, and we love her character in this franchise. She was taught by Mr. Meagi and she's an important figure to the world of The Karate Kid. I can't tell you if she's coming back or not, and if she does, I can't tell you how she's coming back."
