Apple may have just talked about the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro 2023 with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips; according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (opens in new tab), a completely new rumor, as early as mid-2024 MacBook Pro with M3 Pro and M3 Max may be on the way.

This is according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who predicts that the new MacBook Pro will begin mass production in the first half of 2024, probably shortly after the MacBook Pro was just announced in 2023.

Kuo predicts that the latest MacBook Pro will begin mass production in Q4 2022, and Apple announced both models earlier this week. Pre-orders are currently being taken, and they will officially go on sale on January 24.

It is too early to say what the next-generation MacBook Pro will contain or what upgrades we can expect from the M3 Max and M3 Pro. After all, we have not yet had a chance to familiarize ourselves with the new M2 chip and compare it to its predecessor, the M1 chip.

All Kuo will say is that the M3 Pro and M3 Max are next-generation 3-nanometer chips compared to the 5nm chips in the M1 and M2 series. tsmc, which makes chips for the iPhone, has already promised that its 3nm chips will improve efficiency by 35% and performance by an unspecified TSMC, which makes chips for the iPhone, has already promised a 35% increase in efficiency and unspecified performance improvements in its 3nm chips. It stands to reason that similar upgrades will be included in the MacBook.

We should also expect even more significant upgrades in the 2024 MacBook Pro; the 2023 model is nearly identical to the one announced in 2021, with the only major changes being a new M2 Pro and Max chip. Three years may be enough to justify a more substantial refresh, especially if it means shrinking the notch in the center of the screen.

Apple claims that the M2 Pro and M2 Max have 20% better performance and 30% better graphics performance than the M1. In other words, while we have not had a chance to test Apple's claims ourselves, the improvements are definitely there. More details will be revealed as the release date approaches.
