Willow Season 2: Everything We Know

Willow Season 2: Everything We Know

Fans of Disney Plus' "Willow" series are rightly anticipating news of a "Willow" Season 2. After all, the end credits of Season 1 teased the production of Volumes 2 and 3.

These days, no one expects a show to be renewed, but "Willow" feels like the kind of show that will get a second production. Not only does it have an existing fan base, but the series is written with a certain cliffhanger. And, well, the ending of Season 1 of Willow had a warning that suggested there would be more to come.

But to backtrack a bit, Disney Plus's Willow succeeded in delivering a strong sequel to the original Willow. Warwick Davis returned as Willow Uffgood, the aspiring sorceress who helped Mad Martigan (Val Kilmer) save young Elora Danan and stop the demon queen, Bavmorda.

So, after a spoiler warning, here's everything you need to know about a possible Willow Season 2, with details from the Willow Season 1 finale.

So it took two years and one month for Willow to go from Greenlight to Disney Plus, with a start date of October 2020 and a release date of November 2022. With half of that time spent on casting and filming just beginning in June 2021, one might think that Season 2 of Willow would take another two years. But we doubt it. But how long it took to write "Willow" Season 1 is the biggest piece of information we need.

We know that there were 17 months between the start of filming of Season 1 of Willow and its release (open in new tab), so it is not hard to imagine that the wait for Season 2 will be longer.

Showrunner John Kasdan told US Gizmodo (opens in new tab) that there is basically nothing significant waiting yet to start on season 2 of Willow. Keep working on this story. And I'm willing to do it, and I love everyone involved. So it's not a hard order to follow."

This could be read as "Disney wants Kasdan to keep writing to save time between seasons. In any case, we believe the next season (if it happens) will come within two years, so we expect Willow Season 2 in the fall of 2024.

So the good news is that all your favorites should be back for Willow Season 2.

The only characters we don't expect to return are Krone (Jane Carr) and Lili (Rosabel Laurenti Sellers), who were disposed of at the end of season one.

Yes, those who paid attention to the fact that Prince Graydon, played by Tony Revolori, is still alive were rewarded. He is not currently living a great life, stuck in the clutches of the Wyrms. Graydon is expected to be the new harbinger of Wilm in "Willow" Season 2.

So here is the cast expected to return for Season 2. Why? Because Kasdan has said that he "strongly hopes to spend more time with [Mims] in Season 2."

Well, it's all about love.

At the end of Willow's finale, we saw Elora declare that she needed the power of love to free Airak from Wilm's clutches. That same power of love is probably needed to save Graydon. Of course, if Elora and Airak get together in Season 2, it may be harder to save him. Some of us believe that will happen, while others I have spoken to believe that Airak will remain a less relevant part of the story.

Elora does not seem eager to get back together with Airak at the moment.

Aside from the gang finally learning that Graydon is alive and saving him, a major through-line connecting the two seasons will be about Kit's responsibility to protect Elora.

It will also be interesting to see how Willow's desire for power will continue without the wand she sacrificed for her friends.
