"The Mandalorian" Season 3 is almost here, and questions such as "Who is Grog?" (And questions like "Who is Groog?" remain. Yes, despite having been on television for more than two seasons (not forgetting "The Book of Boba Fett"), the adorable sidekick of "The Mandalorian" is still a relative mystery.

While Grogg was able to charm the heart of Din Jarin (the Mandalorian's real name) and get the masked bounty hunter to break the rules of the fellowship, his backstory is still riddled with questions. Thankfully, we learned a lot about Baby Yoda in the process.

So, without further preamble, now that you're ready to watch "The Mandalorian" Season 3, let's review what we know about (and what's happening to) Grog (aka Baby Yoda).

Whether you call him Grog (yes, Grog is male), Baby Yoda, The Child, or Mandu's best friend, Grog is a Force-sensitive member of the same race as the legendary Jedi Grand Master Yoda.

We first learned that Grog was a Force-sensitive when he saved Din Jarin (Pedro Pascal) from a dangerous mad horn.

Program runner Jon Favreau hinted at the importance of this character in the grand scheme of things: "It's fun to reveal and surprise a new character, but it also fits into the larger story of what's happening in the galaxy after the revolution. This is an important character."

This quote is supported by a sighting at the "Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge" attraction at Disneyland's Hollywood Studios Park in Orlando, where Newsweek (opens in new tab) reported that Mandalorian armor was found a Reddit post suggesting that it will one day acquire iconography associated with "the child."

In episode 3, the Mandalorian discusses the emblem to be placed on his armor and declines the first offer, reflecting the above possibility.

Grog was born in 41BBY (before the Battle of Yavin) and is 52 years old. Mandalorians are now 11 ABY (after the Battle of Yavin), and as Jon Favreau said (opens in new tab), Luke and Baby Yoda spent two years together.

11 ABY makes him 52 years old, because the bounty the Mandalorians were looking for in the first episode was said to be 50, and that season was 9 ABY.

At 50, Grog has lived through Order 66 and the fall of the Jedi.

It took 13 episodes to reveal that the character we called Baby Yoda had a real name. We found out when Jarin and Grogg met Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) in "Mandalorian," chapter 13, "The Jedi.

Tano herself was Force-sensitive and communicated with Grog to learn his name.

Tano also revealed that Grog was originally raised in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, but had to go into hiding after the fall of the Jedi Order.

All that is known at this time is that Yoda and Grog are of the same species. She is the female Yadol from "Episode I: The Phantom Menace" and "Star Wars: A Jedi Story.

That said, one would not be criticized for thinking that Grog and Yoda are not closely related. Nevertheless, Yoda died at the age of 900. Given what little is known about their species, it is difficult to assume anything about how they are related.

Shockingly, the name of Yoda's species is not known; in Wookieepedia (opens in new tab), Yoda's species is literally called "Yoda's species."

At the end of The Mandalorian season 2, Din Jarin allowed Groog to travel with Luke Skywalker to train as a Jedi, as seen in The Book of Boba Fett. training took place on the planet Osas (where Skywalker's Jedi Academy was supposed to be located).

Grog was not the best student and once used his powers to find frogs to snack on. When Luke realized that Grog's mind was not on training, he gave him a choice. Grog could accept the armor left behind by Din Jarin or continue his training, but risk not being reunited with his Bescal steel-clad friend.

Grog's Jedi training has essentially been suspended.

Now Grog is flying with Din Jarin in the new N-1 Starfighter that Mando built with mechanic Peri Mott (Amy Sedaris). In a recent adventure, they saved Grog from the villain Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) and even stopped an angry rancor that took down Jarin.

As for the next. Grog's Jedi training is an unresolved loop in his story, and I also feel that Grog's finding a mate is part of the character's endgame.
