Motorola tilted to launch the foldable Razr Lite and Plus to fight the Galaxy Z Flip 5

Next-Generation Motorola Razr Flip Phone Could Double Its Offerings and Challenge Samsung's Top Spot for Best Folding Phone New prototype design renderings from MySmartPrice (opens in new tab) Motorola's fourth generation of clamshell smartphones, rebranded as the "Razr Lite," suggests that it will launch with two headsets: a redesigned standard Motorola Razr 2023 and a premium option called the "Razr Plus."

A collaboration between MySmartPrice and OnLeaks (opens in new tab) recently revealed an unofficial design rendering of a device called the Motorola "Razr Lite." The rendered image shows a dual-lens rear camera setup next to the cover display, an LED flash module below the camera sensor, slim bezels around the sides of the screen, and a smaller external display compared to previous models.

The external display spans the full width of the device, but only takes up about a quarter of the total area of the device when folded. This is much smaller than the Motorola Razr 2022.

Motorola may be taking a page from Samsung, as the Razr Lite's design is similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 4 in terms of workable space. It is unclear what other differences this "Lite" version has from the rumored previous-generation Razr Plus. However, given the design, it seems that this model is intended to undercut the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5.

Most interestingly, these renderings show that the major upgrades already rumored for Motorola's latest generation of folding phones (larger cover display, two-tone design, improved technology under the hood) are exclusive to the Plus model that they are exclusive to the Plus model. Pricing has not yet been announced, but Motorola will likely use these upgrades to justify the higher price of the Razr Plus model over the Razr Lite.

Of course, this should all be taken with a grain of salt; MySmartPrice notes that since the official sales name has not been finalized, the Razr Lite name may not stick and Motorola may simply call it the Razr 2023.

"It is worth noting that the design renderings are based on low-quality, real-life photos of test-stage prototypes," MySmartPrice also wrote. "Therefore, some details depicted in these renderings may be slightly different compared to the final product."

"The design renderings are based on a low quality, realistic photo of a prototype during the testing phase.

Motorola is expected to unveil its fourth-generation folding smartphone in August, so we will know more as that date approaches.
