Today (May 23), HBO Max emerged from the chrysalis to become Max, a new super service comparable to Netflix with the advantages of Discovery Plus. However, there are currently problems with content not being available at all.

Reports tallied by DownDetector peaked at 437 this morning at 9am ET, and Tom's Guide saw Max bug out this morning when trying to open a movie or show in a web browser (specifically Chrome on macOS).

No matter what I clicked, I got the following message: "Something is wrong. Please try again later." On Roku and Apple TV the content plays as it is supposed to, so if you are having problems try using one of the best streaming devices.

I managed to fix the problem. All I needed to do was restart Chrome. Then, when I tried to watch a movie or program, I no longer got the above error message. If you are having problems, I recommend doing the same and restarting your device.

Multiple reports of Max issues have surfaced on Twitter, with one user writing, "Every time I try to open it, the blue Max screen appears for a second and then crashes. This is stupid. Why fix something that isn't broken?"

In reporting on these re-launch day bugs, Variety quotes a Warner Bros. Discovery spokesperson as saying, "... Only minor ones have come up and we can share that they have been quickly remedied." Avi Saxena, CTO of Warner Bros. Discovery, informed us that they are monitoring bugs throughout the day in multiple "war rooms."

As annoying as it may be for those who are now struggling to watch Best Max shows and Best Max movies, this mess is all too familiar. I'm not going to bet on when this micro-crisis will end, but it will probably be over by this evening.

Tyler Whitworth, Max's head of product, told Tom's Guide that a lot of work was done on the app's stability before launch. Specifically, he said the team was "pleased" with the performance.

We're all waiting warily for Sunday night at 9 pm ET when the Succession finale gives Max his first big test.
