[iOS 16.5 and iPadOS 16.5 were released Thursday, adding wallpaper options, a new Sports tab in Apple News, and more.

The dongle connects to the iPhone or iPad through the charging port and comes with a USB-A port for connecting USB-powered accessories such as cameras and microphones to Apple phones and tablets. It also has a built-in Lightning port to charge devices simultaneously.

As MacRumors discovered, Apple users on Reddit and the Apple Support Community forums have encountered problems with the adapter no longer providing power to devices connected to one of these ports after the latest update They say that when they connect an accessory to the USB-A port, they receive an error message stating that the adapter requires too much power to operate.

Apple sells this dongle as a camera-specific adapter for $39. However, iPhone and iPad users use the dongle to connect a variety of USB-powered products, from digital audio converters to Ethernet adapters, to their Apple devices.

The root cause is still unknown; it is most likely a software bug, as reports of this issue began appearing soon after the release of iOS 16.5. Apple will likely add a patch in a future iOS version.

That could still be weeks, if not months away. according to MacRumors, the first beta versions of iOS 16.6 and iPadOS 16.6 were distributed to developers on Friday. iOS 16.5.1, which fixes compatibility, Apple will fix compatibility sooner than that. update could be released.
