iPhone16: All the rumors so far

The iPhone 16 seems like a long way off, but it seems that Apple is already working on it. This is because leaked information about a phone that will be released in 2024 is already circulating, and there are some major upgrades hidden in the leaks.

It is difficult to say now what will be new in the iPhone 16, since the iPhone 15 series has not even appeared yet. However, next year we may see further design changes, camera upgrades, and maybe even an entirely new type of iPhone.

If that piques your interest, join us for a peek into the not-so-distant future and see what has been said so far to be in the iPhone 16 series.

If Apple sticks to its current schedule, the iPhone 16 series should arrive in September 2024. Delays are possible, and have been several times over the past few years, but Apple has never deviated significantly.

Currently, there are no rumors about iPhone 16 pricing, so all we can speculate is that Apple will keep the price of the entry-level model at $800, while the Pro model will cost $1,000 to $1,100 and higher storage versions will add a few hundred dollars more.

One has to imagine that the Ultra model, if there is one, will be even higher, perhaps $1,200 or more, like the other Ultra models on sale.

There are currently two ways in which the iPhone 16 is rumored to significantly change the look of Apple's smartphones. One is the use of Face ID under the display to replace the notch, and the other is a newer Dynamic Island with a single cutout for the selfie camera. It will be interesting to see how well the infrared projector and sensor work with the extra layer of screen in the way, but the face of the iPhone will be very different.

We can also see some size changes: the iPhone 16 Pro will be 6.3 inches and the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be 6.9 inches. the CAD design also shows the size difference of the Pro Max model compared to the iPhone 15 Pro Max The CAD design also shows the size difference of the Pro Max model compared to the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Noted Apple informant Mark Gurman also believes the Pro model will have a larger screen size. larger, making it the largest iPhone to date.

However, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are said to maintain their current 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch sizes, perhaps a slight consideration for users who prefer smaller phones.

Several render artists are already trying to put together renderings of the iPhone 15 rumors. For example, this rendering with a thin bezel and four rear cameras, and this rendering inspired by the Apple Watch Ultra, with a smoother back and chunkier, rounded sides. It's hard to imagine Apple being this adventurous with the iPhone 16 design, but as the leaks pile up, these may be closer to the real thing than we think.

Another possible change to the iPhone 16 display is the addition of a MicroLED display that will consume less power and improve brightness and color. Since this is a completely new technology for Apple, if it is not ready in time, we may have to wait another year or two after the iPhone 16's launch. If so, it could be an OLED panel again, or it could be miniLED, Apple's display technology used in the iPad and MacBook.

It is speculated that Apple will introduce the A18 Bionic chipset in the iPhone 16, at least in the Pro model. So far, however, there are no rumors about which chips these phones will use or how much RAM and storage space they will add.

But one part of the iPhone 16 internals we keep hearing about is Apple's internal modem, an upgrade Apple has been trying to implement for some time. This will replace the current Qualcomm 5G chip that iPhones have been using since the iPhone 12, and if Apple does a good job of optimizing it, could offer efficiency and performance benefits. However, this feature has been rumored for several years without Apple actually producing a production-ready chip, and may possibly not even be included in the iPhone 16.

Absent rumors to the contrary, the camera on the iPhone 16 will be the same as the one on the iPhone 15, with a 48MP main camera plus a 12MP ultra-wide camera, selfie camera, and telephoto camera (Pro model). While both regular and Pro iPhones may use the same 48MP main resolution, the Pro model's sensor could be larger to give the more expensive iPhone a greater advantage in photography.

However, the standard model could return to the vertical camera arrangement last seen on the iPhone 12. Since then, the two lenses have been stacked diagonally on a square camera bump.

We have also heard that both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will have periscope telephoto cameras, as well as the Pro Max model, which is currently said to be included in the iPhone 15 series. However, there is also talk that the iPhone 16 series may also have a dedicated Pro Max camera. We hope that Apple will keep the camera specs for both Pro iPhones in line so as not to lose users who prefer the smaller, slightly cheaper Pro model.

Apple has been making Pro and Pro Max iPhones for the past four years and expects to enter its fifth year with the iPhone 15 series. However, the iPhone 16 could be the first iPhone Ultra model to surpass both the Pro and Pro Max. In return, Apple would discontinue one of the basic iPhone models and keep the lineup as a quartet.

However, one source says only "in the next couple of years," so it may not be the iPhone 16 series that introduces the Ultra after all.

It is unclear how exactly Apple will bring the iPhone up to the Ultra level. It is possible that they could take inspiration from existing Ultra phones like Samsung's Galaxy S23 Ultra in multiple ways, including a larger display and additional cameras, etc. If the Apple Watch Ultra follows the basic design of the Apple Watch 8, but is larger and and added additional features inside and out, it will be interesting to see what Apple comes up with for its flagship product.

Needless to say, it is still very early in the iPhone 16 production schedule for these rumors to be particularly reliable. But the fact that they have already been leaked is nonetheless interesting.

A new camera with a larger zoom (and on more models), a larger frame, an upgraded display, plus the annual power and performance enhancements are all more valuable upgrades than those expected for the iPhone 15 It will be. Plus, there is the intriguing anticipation of what the Ultra iPhone will bring to the table that the current Pro model does not.

However, it is too early to say whether the iPhone 15, or even the current iPhone 14, is really worth the wait. All we can do is wait for more rumors and slowly piece together the information until September 2024.
