YouTube TV is frozen during the NBA Playoffs, but a fix is coming

YouTube TV is a great way to cut the cord. And usually a great way to watch sports. But if you watched a live stream of an NBA playoff game, like Game 1 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat on Wednesday, you probably wouldn't think so.

because during the last few minutes of the game, YouTube TV's TNT feed froze with an advertisement for the upcoming film The Little Mermaid. However, YouTube TV has promised to make this problem a thing of the past.

In a Reddit comment on r/youtubetv subreddit (ht 9to5Google), a YouTube TV engineer confirmed that YouTube TV is aware of the issue and is working on a solution. Indeed, given the abusive language from customers on Twitter and other social media, it is almost impossible that they are not aware of this issue, but they seem to have narrowed the problem down to "rising rejection rates."

A solution has not yet been rolled out, but engineers say the streaming service "has a fix," so hopefully this is the last we see of this problem.

In an unexpected silver lining for streaming services, at least this ad buffering issue came up now instead of this fall. That's because YouTube TV will be the home of NFL Sunday Ticket this year, meaning it will be the only place to watch all NFL regular season games instead of cable TV.

And this got the word out to NFL analysts on Twitter, with Warren Sharp of Sharp Football Analysis and The Ringer saying that the NFL's choice of YouTube TV as its Sunday Ticket partner "got me in trouble and he railed against it on Twitter.

And he was not alone; Joe Pompliano, of Huddle Up newsletter fame, was even more scathing in his condemnation of YouTube TV, including the loss of regional sports networks and the recent price hike to $73 per month, arguably making customers pay more for less He highlighted all the changes over the years that have resulted in paying more.

Personally, I would be lying if I said I have never had buffering problems with YouTube TV. It definitely happens. However, I was also able to watch the Golden State Warriors get embarrassed against the Los Angeles Lakers without any problems. With features like multi-view and key plays, YouTube TV continues to be an excellent option for cord-cutting sports fans, and hopefully YouTube TV's new fixes will keep it that way throughout the NFL season, despite people's legitimate concerns

The NFL is also looking forward to the new fixes.
