ChatGPT has officially released an iOS app, so you no longer have to guess whether an app in the App Store promises access to ChatGPT or is malware.

The official ChatGPT app for iOS has been announced on the OpenAI website. This brings the full power of AI chatbots to the iPhone, no longer limited to a web browser. Additionally, the mobile version integrates OpenAI's Whisper speech recognition system, so you can prompt ChatGPT with your voice. The app is available for download from the App Store now and, thankfully, does not display any ads.

With the ChatGPT app you get what you pay for, just as you would when using ChatGPT in a browser. In other words, unless you pay for ChatGPT Plus, you are limited to GPT-3.5.

However, if you have a ChatGPT Plus account, you will have access to GPT-4 models trained with the latest information, according to OpenAI. Plus subscribers will also get early access to features and faster response times, a perk they already had with a web subscription.ChatGPT plugin and web browsing - a new beta feature of ChatGPT Plus currently being rolled out - will be available in the iOS app It is unclear if they will also be available in the iOS app.

And Android users need not worry. Currently, ChatGPT's official mobile app is only available to iOS users in the U.S., but OpenAI's official announcement hints at an expanded rollout: OpenAI says, "P.S. Android users, you're next! ChatGPT is coming to your device soon."

The process for setting up ChatGPT on iOS is simple: search for OpenAI ChatGPT in the App Store or go directly to the app page in the App Store. Then tap Install.

You will need an OpenAI account to access ChatGPT, whether in the iOS app or in a web browser. You can also register an account during the login process in the app itself.

Once you are set up on your iPhone, there are many things you can do with ChatGPT. You can compose music, write a book (at least one chapter), or play text-based games. You can also become a power user of ChatGPT in no time by being specific with your prompts and teaching yourself how to write.

Have fun! Make sure you have downloaded the official app. Fake ChatGPT apps are rampant, trying to scam you into paying for free features or putting malware on your phone. Therefore, be sure to download only official OpenAI ChatGPT apps.
