Google Starts Deleting Inactive Accounts — What It Means to You

Use it or lose it. This is the warning that Google emailed to people with Google accounts yesterday (see screenshot below).

Fortunately, Google will not begin deleting accounts until December 1, 2023, and since they send warning emails to those at risk of account deletion 8 months in advance, they have several months before this policy goes into effect.

If Google determines that an account has become inactive, Google will send a series of emails to both the Gmail address and the recovery email account (if any.) If a Google account is deleted, the Gmail address for that account will be deleted and the new account cannot be used to create a new account.

Google also states in its email some exemptions to its account deletion policy.
