If you have Meta Quest 2, Meta may be rewarding your loyalty in the near future.

At least that's according to an email one Redditor received; as reported by our friends at TechRadar, Meta may be sending out emails for free Meta Quest 2 Elite Straps. Redditor u/ claimingmarrow7 posted such an email on the r/Oculus subreddit, and it appears that Meta has given them a promo code for a free Meta Quest 2 strap. According to the email, users who received the code for this promotion have until August 4, 2023 to redeem the code.

If this promotion is legitimate, it would be a serious win for Quest 2 owners and a reason to get a Quest 2 now. The Elite Strap is a notable upgrade over the Quest 2's factory strap, which comes with a plastic strap that is adjustable with a fitting wheel instead of the elastic strap that comes with all Quest 2 VR headsets.

This gives the headset a more fine-tuned ergonomic experience and is well worth the upgrade. In fact, we list the Meta Quest 2 Elite Strap with Battery pack as the top Meta Quest 2 accessory. It takes the upgrade one step further by adding an external battery pack to the strap with fit wheels. However, the Elite Strap without Battery (which Meta seems to be offering in this email) is still worth the money.

Unfortunately, we can't guarantee that all Quest 2 users will eventually have access to this campaign; according to comments on the Reddit post, u/claimingmarrow7 was incredibly lucky. Some comments suggest that it may be limited to a handful of users or that it may be a US-only promotion. [However, this seems unlikely given that the Meta Quest 3 announcement indicates that Meta plans to continue supporting Quest 2 for some time after Quest 3 is released later this year.

What we can say for sure at this point is that purchasing Meta Quest 2 does not guarantee that you will receive a free Quest 2 Elite Strap e-mail from Meta. However, given that the Meta Quest 2 is only $299 and is the best VR headset we've ever tested, it's worth the purchase if you want to start experiencing the world of virtual reality.
