Metaquest Plus - The VR game subscription for Meta is finally here

Metaquest Plus - The VR game subscription for Meta is finally here

The Meta Quest 2 may not be the best VR headset for gaming - we currently give that honor to PSVR 2 and the superior firepower provided by the PS5 processor. But thanks to its affordable price and standalone design, the Quest 2 remains the best VR headset we've ever tested and an excellent way to play the best VR games.

And now Meta wants to make access to its library of over 500 games more accessible to those who want to try VR games. Starting today, users can sign up for Meta Quest Plus, a new subscription service that allows users to play two games per month.

Meta Quest Plus costs just $7.99 per month. You can also save money and pay $59.99 per year.

But for a limited time, you can get it even cheaper. Right now, you can sign up for Quest Plus for only $1 by going to the Meta Quest Plus product page on Meta's website.

Now, there's a catch. Just like any other game subscription service, you can only access titles for as long as you subscribe to Meta Quest Plus. However, if you unsubscribe and then re-subscribe, your access to Quest Plus games will be restored.

Another drawback is that you do not choose the games. Games are curated by Meta and must be redeemed before the month is over.

For example, the July 2023 picks (which seem to be available now) are Pistol Whip and Pixel Ripped 1995. To be sure of getting these, you need to redeem them from your web browser's Meta Quest Plus page or Quest headset by the end of July 2023; if you wait until August, they will disappear and be replaced by mother gunships: the Forge and Walkabout Mini Golf will replace them.

The initial announcement was made by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Instagram's Meta Channel, after which Meta revealed more information about the new subscription service.

According to Zuckerberg, Quest Pass is now available for Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro. It will also be available for Meta Quest 3, which will be released later this year. However, it is unclear whether this new subscription will be restricted in some regions; to sign up for Meta Quest Plus, one must be at least 17 years old in the U.S. and 18 in other regions, but parents can use their own accounts through App Sharing to share Meta Quest Plus games with their children through App Sharing.
