Samsung Galaxy S24Ultra Tipped to Steal iPhone15Pro's Biggest Design Upgrade

Different models of Samsung's Galaxy S24 coming early next year may introduce titanium frames and larger screens, according to the leaked Ice Universe.

First, titanium may be used for the side rails of the Galaxy S24 Ultra model, IU finally explained, after initially only posting a periodic table image.

Titanium is strong and lightweight, making it an ideal material for premium smartphones, at least in theory. Apple seems to think so, too, and the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will feature titanium frames later this year.

The downside, however, is that titanium is expensive, and there are rumors of a corresponding price increase for the iPhone 15 Pro line. And while lighter than the stainless steel found in the Pro iPhone, it is still heavier than aluminum, a material commonly used in cell phone frames. Samsung has been heavily promoting its lightweight and strong "Armor Aluminum" smartphone bodies for several years now. So the introduction of titanium may mean that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will be noticeably heavier than the current aluminum-clad Galaxy S23 Ultra.

That's not all Ice Universe said. He also claims that the Galaxy S24 Plus will have a larger display, possibly changing from the Galaxy S23 Plus' 6.6-inch panel to a 6.65-inch panel.

A larger display could mean a larger body for the S24 Plus, which in turn could mean a larger battery, or at least extra space for other features that Samsung might want to add S23 Plus. Currently, the S23 Plus differs from the basic Galaxy S23 in display size, battery size, minimum storage capacity, and charging speed, so perhaps adding some features borrowed from the Ultra model would make the mid-sized Galaxy S phone more would help differentiate it from its smaller siblings.

We haven't heard much about other upgrades to the Galaxy S24 series yet. But rumors so far note faster charging, the same selfie camera (at least in terms of sensor), and, depending on where in the world you buy your phone, the reintroduction of Snapdragon and Exynos versions.

Samsung will likely launch the Galaxy S24 series next February. There is plenty of time to hear more rumors before the launch, including whether other sources corroborate these claims that Samsung will use new materials for the Ultra and a larger display for the Plus.
