Max (the relaunched HBO Max) is just getting started, but it continues its predecessor's tradition of delivering great movies. It has also ensured its ranking as the best streaming service by maintaining its status as the home box office.

August's new movies give us plenty of options on what to add to our Best Max Movies list. To help clarify this confusion and fight decision paralysis (a problem we all share), we're using two filters to narrow down our massive list of new Max movies.

All of these films have scores above 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is basically an A rating. And we curate the list so that everyone can enjoy it. This month we have excellent action, a classic dark comedy crime film, one of the best horror films of all time, and a superb documentary.

The second chapter of the 2010 Planet of the Apes reboot (no need to see the previous film) is excellent. Humanity is reeling after the "rise" of the apes, as only 1 in 500 humans are genetically immune to the simian flu pandemic.

Malcolm (Jason Clarke) leads a group into the ape community and may be humanity's only hope for peace. There he forms a bond with their leader, Caesar (Andy Serkis). Of course, with someone named "Caesar" involved, the odds of peace are really slim.

A great popcorn movie that you'll likely miss, "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" is as thoughtful as it is action-packed.
