iPhone15Pro design upgrade just confirmed in a new report

Rumors have been circulating for months that the next iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will feature ridiculously thin bezels as part of Apple's longstanding vision to create a truly borderless iPhone. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, in his latest Power On newsletter confirms this, attributing the design upgrade to some new technology Apple is employing in the iPhone manufacturing process: low injection pressure over molding, or "LIPO."

"That new process reduces the perimeter size around the display to 1.5 mm (from about 2.2 mm on the current iPhone)," he said.

As Garman noted, Apple first used LIPO in the Apple Watch Series 7 to shave the border to increase the overall display without increasing the size of the casing. Apple plans to use this technology in iPad models as well, he added.

Garman also confirmed another longstanding iPhone rumor: the standard iPhone 15 line would ditch the notch found on the iPhone 14 Plus for Dynamic Islands. early renderings as of February hinted at a design change: a leaked video posted in March showed that all four iPhone 15 series models would feature Dynamic Islands, rather than just the more expensive models like the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Aside from the new screen, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are also poised to get a number of new upgrades. Garman said that Apple's next-generation premium smartphones are receiving "the biggest update since the addition of 5G capabilities three years ago."

Other rumored upgrades include USB-C charging, a periscope telephoto camera exclusive to the Pro model, a new 3nm A17 Bionic chipset with more power, and new customizable action buttons. There is much anticipation for this new model, which is expected to be unveiled at Apple's September event. However, manufacturing issues with the display could delay the launch to October.
