The future Galaxy Z Fold may finally have a built-in stylus, a step up from the Galaxy Z Fold 5. Newly discovered Samsung patents (via xleaks7 and Studimo) show two different ideas for adding an S Pen slot to a foldable phone.

The patent, titled "Electronic device and method of using an electronic pen," details that the device would work with a stylus and could be stored in the body. The slot can be located on the back or on the side.

The S Pen storage will bring the Galaxy Z Fold family in line with the Galaxy S23 Ultra. However, Samsung needs to be careful with the size of the Z Fold, especially when folded, which is likely why we have seen the S Pen offered as an additional accessory to the Z Fold since compatibility was introduced.

In addition to the reveal that it will be bundled with the foldable phone, Samsung may also add an additional button to the stylus; the S Pen already has one button for accessing favorite tools and interacting with the phone when the stylus is placed over the display. There is one button. Adding an additional button would allow the user to easily switch between virtual pens, colors, etc. without having to open the on-screen tool selection.

Stylus support is an important part of the Galaxy Z Fold's appeal, especially now that devices like the OnePlus Open and Google Pixel Fold are challenging the Galaxy Z Fold in other areas like photo quality and multitasking.

The inclusion of a fully integrated stylus in a future Z Fold, instead of purchasing a separate case with an integrated S Pen, would help make Samsung's foldable more appealing to potential buyers why it offers a more complete package than its competitors.

Patents are only claims of ideas, not guarantees that companies will actually use them. However, there is definitely demand for smarter S Pen storage in the Galaxy Z Fold, and as competition for the best folding phone heats up, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 would definitely benefit from implementing this, even if future generations of Samsung's foldable It will.
