One UI 6 is a major upgrade to your Samsung Galaxy phone's camera.

Your Samsung Galaxy camera will soon get some fun new shooting and editing features thanks to a camera update announced today by Samsung for its new One UI 6 software.

One of the biggest changes to the camera app is the ability to see without opening the app. This is the addition of custom widgets for the home screen that allow you to enable your favorite settings and open the camera instantly. It is unclear what options can be adjusted with these widgets, but illustrations suggest that they will allow users to select or set the camera for common types of photos, such as selfies, city, night sky, etc.

The main camera app window has a quick setting to quickly enable the full resolution of the phone's main camera, like the Galaxy S23's 50MP camera or the Galaxy S23 Ultra's 200MP camera (and possibly the Galaxy S24 Ultra).

Once the photo is taken, the new AI image clipping feature can be used. This can turn a photo or photo object into a sticker, similar to what iOS 17 offers, for later video or photo editing uses, or simply for copy-pasting on the fly. This is one less reason for Samsung users to be jealous of iPhone users.

The camera app now also has an auto-scan feature that automatically opens a scan menu when it detects a document, and the AI magic doesn't stop there, automatically removing elements that can ruin a scan, such as a finger or a clip that is accidentally in the image

You can also use AI Magic to automatically remove elements that could ruin a scan, such as accidentally captured fingers or clips.

When you want to tweak your photos after the fact, Samsung's update brings a new editor layout that arranges the available tools in a simpler and more condensed interface.

An undo/redo button has also been added to make it easier to compare photos before and after editing.

Samsung has also made changes to the Galaxy Enhance-X app (available as a free download from the Galaxy Store), a photo app dedicated to AI editing. The app offers users the option to remove lens smudges from a perfect photo or identify which stars were captured in a night sky photo, as well as gaining its own version of the standard "Single Take" camera app.

One UI 6 is still in beta, but Samsung says it will launch soon. This is not surprising now that Android 14, the basic software at its heart, has also been officially released.
