Top 5 new movies coming to Hulu in November 2023

As the month dawns in the streaming world, new movies and TV shows begin on each major service. Hulu, one of the best streaming services on the market, welcomes a mix of original programming, modern classics, and legacy shows to its vast library.

Hulu will add over 140 titles in November 2023. We've narrowed that list down to five options. From holiday favorites to action classics, check out our five picks for new movies and TV shows coming to Hulu in November.

Don't underestimate Ridley Scott. The visionary director of "Alien" and "Blade Runner" continues to work at an alarming rate at age 85, with "Napoleon" due out later this month and "Gladiator 2" in 2024. At Scott's age, the number of films he has left to make is limited, which means that any chance to see his work is a time worth spending. One of Scott's latest films is The Last Duel, starring Matt Damon, Adam Driver, Jodie Comer, and Ben Affleck.

Scripted by Damon, Affleck, and Nicole Holofcener, "The Last Duel" is about the final trial by duel in 14th century France. Jean de Carouge (Damon), a skilled knight and soldier, accuses his friend Jacques Le Gris (Driver) of raping his wife Marguerite (Comer). The film depicts the incident through the perspectives of Jean, Jacques, and Marguerite, climaxing with a brutal and vicious duel.

Don't let the low box office numbers deter you. The Last Duel is an intelligent, well-made medieval epic, and the performances of the three leads are remarkable.

Jessica Yu's "Quiz Lady," a sort of buddy road trip comedy from the 80s and 90s that sadly disappeared in 2023. Ann Yam (Awkwafina), a uptight accountant, loves two things: her dog Ringini and the "Jeopardy"-style game show Can't Stop The Quiz. Anne is a genius at answering quizzes correctly from the comfort of her couch.

After a misunderstanding at their mother's nursing home, Ann's confused sister Jenny (Sandra Oh) comes to town. The sisters' mother was not dead. She had fled the country due to a gambling addiction. Shortly after Jenny's arrival, a bookie kidnaps Ringini and demands $80,000 to pay off her mother's gambling debts. Jenny offers to win the prize money on a game show, and a cross-country road trip begins where the sisters must repair their relationship if they are to have any chance of making Anne a quiz champion.

Home may be at Thanksgiving, but November is a good month to start watching Christmas movies, and the best Christmas movie of the 21st century is "Elf," which will be available on Hulu later this month. Directed by Jon Favreau, "Elf" follows the life of Buddy (Will Ferrell), a human who was accidentally sent to the North Pole as a child. Raised by Santa's elves, Buddy struggles to integrate into society because of his human nature.

As an adult, Buddy sets sail for New York City to find his real father, Walter Hobbs (James Caan). Unfortunately for Buddy, Walter is on the "naughty list" as a modern-day Scrooge who puts business before family. To cheer Walter up in the Christmas spirit, Buddy comes to Walter's office unannounced, and Walter is shocked; after a DNA test proves that they are father and son, Walter reluctantly takes in Buddy.

Although his methods are unconventional, Buddy's innate charm and elf persona win Walter a wife and son. But Walter needed a little more convincing, and 20 years later, "Elf" is still a heartwarming and funny Christmas classic, a must-see during the holiday season.

In 2008, Baz Luhrmann directed "Australia," a historical epic set in the early days of World War II. Nicole Kidman stars as Lady Sarah Ashley, a wealthy aristocrat who visits Australia to sell her inherited ranch, Faraway Downs. After her husband's death, Lady Sarah must join forces with a man called Drover (Hugh Jackman) to guide the cattle through the terrain to keep them out of the hands of King George (David Gulpilil), who wants to sell the ranch.

Fifteen years later, Rahman retitled the film "Far Downs" and re-edited it into a six-part series. The series combines scenes from the theatrical release with unused footage to present an epic, romantic adventure through the eyes of a mixed-race indigenous child named Nullah (Brandon Walters) Faraway Downs includes a different ending than the Australian one, and Rahman An interesting reason to revisit the director's love letter to his homeland.

It is no exaggeration to say that "Die Hard" changed action cinema. Before "Die Hard," action heroes resembled indestructible superheroes with big muscles and even bigger weapons. However, John McClane, played by Bruce Willis, was a foul-mouthed, believable New York detective who took his fair share of abuse. McClane crosses the country to attend his estranged wife's company holiday party in an attempt to patch things up between them.

Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman) and his terrorist group have other plans for the party, replacing eggnog with machine guns. Hans is interested in $700 million worth of bearer bonds in the building's safe and holds the party guests hostage. Despite his meticulous and elaborate plan, Hans never envisioned McClane doing everything in his power to thwart the robbery. After watching "Die Hard," the question must be answered: is this a Christmas movie?
