Samsung's New Galaxy Z Flip 5 Retro Jazzes Up Folding with Early 2000s Nostalgia

Older people who remember 2003 will be excited about Samsung's latest limited edition handset. The handset draws design inspiration from one of the Korean company's most important releases, the SGH-E700.

Noted as the electronics giant's first phone with a built-in antenna, the groundbreaking (and immensely popular) SGH-E700 flip phone paved the way for Samsung to become the smartphone powerhouse it is today.

Switching to 2023, flip phones are back in vogue, making it the perfect time for Samsung to introduce the nostalgia-inducing Galaxy Z Flip 5 Retro.

First teased last week, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 Retro will feature the same indigo blue and silver colorway that graced the SGH-E700 and, according to Samsung, "reinterprets 2000s pixel graphics in a UX design that evokes nostalgia unique animations on the Flex Window that depict cityscapes," according to the company.

In addition, those who purchase the Galaxy Z Flip 5 Retro will also receive "three Flipsuit cards featuring logos from different eras of Samsung history, a Flipsuit case, and a collector card engraved with a unique serial number to enhance the buyer's collection value." will also be given away.

Available only through Samsung's official website, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 Retro will be available in limited quantities on November 1 in the UK and Australia, Korea, Germany, and Spain, and on November 2 in France. Unfortunately, a U.S. release has not yet been announced.

As for the price of the limited edition Retro package, Samsung has so far only announced details for Australia, where the price is set at A$1,949 (about $1,240/£1,022). Storage capacity has also not been announced, but the Australian price is A$100 more than the standard 512GB model.
