11 New Movies and Shows to Watch This Weekend on Netflix, HBO and More (Oct. 27-29)

Here are just a few of the new movies and TV shows available on Netflix, Max, Hulu, and other streaming services this weekend, and they're all candy without the tricks. From the spooky to the not-so-spooky, a veritable cauldron is simmering.

Leading the weekend lineup is Season 2 of "The Gilded Age," which revives the social ascendancy and snobbism of late 19th-century New York City; "Billions" is the series finale; and "The Gilded Age" is the new "The Gilded Age," which brings to life the social and political upheavals of the late 19th century. South Park" will unveil the new "Joining the Panderverse," and dinosaurs will come to life (on screen) in "Life on Our Planet."

Nothing could be more brutal than the battle between old conglomerates and upstart corporations in late 1800s New York City. Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon) may have won by having Mrs. Astor (Donna Murphy) attend the ball, but she still has a long way to go to be accepted by society. She hits a roadblock when her bid for a box seat at the Music Academy is rejected. But Bertha does not back down from the fight.

So does her husband, George Russell (Morgan Spector), who is challenging the growing union within the organization. Marian Brooke (Louisa Jacobson) continues her journey to find her own way by secretly teaching at a girls' school, but Aunt Agnes (Christine Baranski) is thoroughly opposed.

Based on the novel by Thomas Mallon, this miniseries offers a nuanced look at the difficulties and complexities of living as a gay man in mid-century America. Starring Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey in secret romance that spans the 1950s and decades.

Hawkins Fuller (Bomer) is a charismatic up-and-coming Washington, D.C. politician, and Tim Laughlin (Bailey) is an idealistic former seminary student who becomes Hawk's protege. They fall in love when Joseph McCarthy and Roy Cohn declare war on "subversives and sexual deviants." Their relationship is tested by the Vietnam War protests of the 60s, the drug-fueled disco hedonism of the 70s, and the AIDS crisis of the 80s.

The "American Horror Story" spin-off anthology returns with four chilling new chapters, just in time for Halloween. This time around, Ryan Murphy recruits Lisa Rinna, Reid Scott, Raul Castillo, Emily Browning, and Jeff Hiller to fill out the cast.

In the first episode, "Bestie," a young woman grieving the loss of her mother connects with a mysterious online friend." In "Daphne," a strange bond develops between an artificially intelligent device and its user. In "Tapeworm," an up-and-coming model leaves no stone unturned for success; in "Tapeworm," a blind date on a dating app goes horribly wrong.

Steven Spielberg's latest nature documentary features beautiful high-definition photography, this time combined with cutting-edge graphics technology to bring long-extinct creatures to life! The eight episodes chronicle the Earth's history through the five mass extinctions that have occurred so far. The filmmakers consulted paleontologists to accurately portray the dinosaurs and other species that once roamed the earth but became extinct. But as narrator Morgan Freeman says, "Life always finds a way."

In the latest South Park film, Cartman has a deeply disturbing dream that foreshadows the end of the life he knows and loves. Meanwhile, the adults in "South Park" are also wrestling with their own life decisions as the world is turned upside down by the advent of AI.

And how the mighty fall. Billions has mined much drama (and some comedy) from the ultra-high-risk game played between finance and politics. And now all the major players must show their final hand. Chuck Rhodes (Paul Giamatti) and Axe (Damian Lewis) have finally joined forces to take down Mike Prince (Corey Stoll). They go after him both financially by targeting his personal wealth and his presidential political campaign. Individually, Chuck and Axe are formidable adversaries, but as a team they may be unstoppable.

After losing her job, Liza Drake runs into Pete Brenner (Chris Evans), a pharmaceutical sales representative. She takes a job at his start-up company, which sets her on a financially lucrative but morally dubious path. As she deals with her increasingly deranged boss (Andy Garcia) and her daughter's (Chloe Coleman) deteriorating medical condition, Liza realizes the devastation her company is causing and is forced to rethink her choices.

Renowned documentary director Errol Morris ("The Thin Blue Line," "Fog of War") presents a fascinating profile of the late spy-turned-novelist John Le Carré.
