Apple May Bring MacBooks to the Masses with Two New Low-Priced Laptops - What We Know at This Time

If you're thinking about getting one of the best MacBooks, you might want to wait until next year, especially if the MacBook Pro is out of your price range or the MacBook Air doesn't have enough ports.

Rumors are starting to circulate that Apple may add some new lower-priced MacBooks in 2024, despite discontinuing the MacBook line in 2019.

DigiTimes first reported this last month, but a new blog post on Naver in Korea claims that the iPhone maker is currently developing both new 12-inch and 13-inch MacBooks. In addition to providing a cheaper entry point for potential Mac users, these new MacBooks could compete directly with the best Chromebooks in the education market.

One of the ways Apple became the tech giant it is today was by bringing Macs into schools at its inception. But now that Generation Z prefers iPhones over Android, it makes more sense to give students Macs instead of Chromebooks or Windows laptops.

Even if you're not a student, these new lower-priced MacBooks, rumored to sell for under $700, could be the perfect laptop for you and your budget. At this point, Apple has not yet announced or even confirmed their existence, so as with all rumors, this one should be taken with a grain of salt. That said, if a new MacBook is on your wish list, you might want to wait instead of trying to get one on the cheap during Black Friday.

The MacBook Pro is a great machine for getting the job done, and the MacBook Air offers a lot of power in a very portable package. These two laptops cover the professional and business user, but what about everyone else?

Before the MacBook was discontinued a few years ago, this was the heart of Apple's lineup. Not everyone needs all the additional power that the MacBook Pro offers, and some people want more ports, not the portability of the MacBook Air.

At the same time, not everyone wants to bring a $1000+ laptop when working in public; sometimes a cheaper, less powerful laptop is best for the task at hand, such as replying to emails or completing a college class. Plus, if a MacBook is stolen or damaged, it is much cheaper and easier to replace than the much more expensive MacBook Pro.

We have heard rumors for years that Apple would release a cheaper MacBook, but with MacBook sales rapidly declining, now seems like the perfect time to bring this discontinued laptop back from the past. It could also be a way to attract Windows users who are accustomed to spending considerably less on budget laptops.

The low-cost MacBook may be revealed sooner rather than later at Apple's "frighteningly fast" event scheduled for next week. However, since the new M3 chip is the focus of the event, we can't blame them for hoping, although that seems unlikely.
