MacBook Pro M3 with Dynamic Island? Questions raised by this leak

First look at the M3 MacBook Pro packaging ahead of its unveiling at Apple's "Scary Fast" event. But wait... Is that a dynamic island in place of the notch!

This is a question people have been asking under a growing number of X posts on ShrimpApplePro. So, if it pleases the court, please allow me to approach the metaphorical bench to get evidence for and against this event.

Let me take a photo from ShrimpApplePro's post and, in the words of Captain Picard, enhance it.

The background is too dark to make out the outlines (some users have questioned the angle of this wallpaper), but the curve at the bottom of what appears to be Dynamic Island is sharper and looks more notch-like.

Furthermore, no matter how secretive Apple is, the company is a leaky ship when it comes to secrets being revealed so close to an event; if such significant changes are being made to a huge product like the MacBook Pro, we should have heard a lot more by now. [That's what's in the Universal Control sidebar of the iPadOS 17.1 beta, which appears to show a silhouette of a MacBook with the Dynamic Island outline cut out of the display area. Was this a coincidental preview that this technology from the iPhone would be included in Apple's laptop?

And then there's the fact that because of the black area of that wallpaper, it's hard to say for sure if it's Dynamic Island or not. As I said, I'm in the camp that believes it will be just a notch without any significant design updates for at least a couple more years. But what if they do? It is certainly an exciting prospect to contemplate.

Among Apple fans, this may be just wishful thinking. Increasing brightness and decreasing contrast would give the impression of a notch outline. In addition, if we are going for this, it is likely that at least some leaks are coming from other sources such as Mark Garman and Ming-Chi Kuo.

But given the deep black of that area in the background, I can't say for sure; combined with images of what appears to be a MacBook with Dynamic Island on iPadOS 17.1 beta, we could build a pretty shaky case for its existence. Before we can even think about building an island on the panel, we first need to get FaceID on the MacBook.
