Blunt's muscular warrior, Sergeant Rita Vrataski, aka "Full Metal Bitch," is assigned to train Major William Cage, played by Cruise, who is trapped in a time loop, fighting a deadly alien invasion, Groundhog Day-style, over and over He is forced to repeat his own death. Blunt and Cruise make a powerful yet goofy pair, the former's tough-as-nails Rita a ruthless and acerbic action hero as one would expect.

If "Edge of Tomorrow" ushered in Emily Blunt's era as a legitimate action star, this 2015 Denis Villeneuve-directed crime thriller solidified it. The actress plays Kate Macer, a young, idealistic FBI special agent who is called in by a government task force official (Josh Brolin) to track a drug cartel kingpin (Bernardo Saracino) along the dangerous border between the United States and Mexico. [She meets Alejandro Gillick (Benicio del Toro), a sicario (assassin) hired by the CIA to hunt down cartel criminals, but Kate remains mystified by the opacity of the mission, and Brandt's attempts to navigate a land of increasingly lawless law enforcement moral nails the conflict.

Directed by John Krasinski, who also directed the 2018 sci-fi thriller and its 2020 sequel, and the actress's first collaboration, A Quiet Place is a film about family ties on and off screen. The film centers on two parents fighting to keep each other and their three children (played by Millicent Simmons, Noah Jupe, and Cade Woodward) alive in a post-apocalyptic world plagued by terrifying extraterrestrials that make up for their lack of vision with acute hearing.

A twig snapping is enough to attract a monstrous alien, so imagine the panic when the super-pregnant character played by Blunt goes into labor and has to quietly attempt to give birth alone in the bathtub while muffling her screams with her hands to protect herself and her unborn child. One of the most chilling horror scenes in recent memory.

Trying to stand out among a megawatt cast that includes Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr, Florence Pugh, and the hugely successful leading man Cillian Murphy is a difficult task, but Brandt is J. Robert, Murphy's Oppenheimer's wife, Katherine "Kitty" Pooning, a theoretical physicist known as the so-called "father of the atomic bomb," is brilliantly played.

Blunt does a lot with limited screen time in Christopher Nolan's blockbuster, portraying Kitty as a character as dynamic and damaged as her husband, a well-educated, well-traveled woman struggling with the social constraints of motherhood in the 1940s and 1950s, and portrayed as a scientist. (Despite her own problems, including her husband's infidelity and her own struggles with alcoholism, Kitty has the integrity and fortitude her husband needs, and she chides Oppenheimer's critics over the decades.
