Xiaomi 14 Teases Bezels and Serious Camera Specs that Outperform iPhone 15

Xiaomi's flagship handset is historically one of the best Android phones you can buy. It's very hard to get in the U.S., but hard-earned purchases are rewarded with a sleekly designed phone and solid specs.

The Xiaomi 14 will be officially unveiled tomorrow along with a powered-up Pro version, but rather than wait until then, the Chinese manufacturer is building momentum for the big day by posting attractive teaser shots, key camera specs, and sample photos of the regular model on Weibo

Promotional shots of the Xiaomi 14 show a stylish pearly white smartphone with a shiny stainless steel-like frame; a 6.36-inch AMOLED screen dominates the front of the device, with a a single hole-punch camera.

Xiaomi takes aim at Apple in another post, showing exactly how thin the bezels are compared to the iPhone 15 family: on the Xiaomi 14, they range from 1.61mm at the top to 1.71mm at the bottom, which is 2.25mm all around, compared to the iPhone 15 (2.25mm) and iPhone 15 Pro (1.75mm), beating both.

On the back of the Xiaomi 14, there is a large black square in the upper left corner that houses a Leica-branded triple camera array, and in yet another post, Xiaomi revealed that the main sensor in that block is 1/1.31-inch, 50MP, 1.2um pixels, f/1.6 aperture It was revealed that it will be This is a wider aperture than the f/1.8 of the Xiaomi 13, allowing it to absorb more light in darker situations. This main lens will be complemented by a 14mm 0.6x ultrawide lens and a 3.2x f/2.2 telephoto sensor.

Xiaomi has posted a bunch of sample photos in a separate post, all of which appear to be packed with detail, but don't read too much into them. Frankly, promotional sample images from smartphone manufacturers around the world often bear little resemblance to what the average user can achieve in the real world, so it is best to have some skepticism and wait for hands-on testing.

It shouldn't be too long before the actual camera samples appear; Xiaomi plans to unveil both the 14 and the higher-end 14 Pro at tomorrow's event, but it remains to be seen how many surprises will be left. According to recent leaks, both models will be powered by the just-announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and have 16GB RAM. Both run Android 14 out of the box.
