When Ryan Bingham, played by George Clooney, meets Alex Golan (Vera Farmiga), he finds himself attracted to a woman whose lifestyle rivals that of a jet-setter. The film takes a turn into a romantic comedy when the two discover they have a special synergy, despite never having spent much time in the same city. The raw reality of unemployment, the possibility of true love, and the humorous banter between Clooney and Kendrick combine to make this a romantic comedy not to be missed. - NP

For Runaway Bride, director Garry Marshall brings back our favorite romantic couple: Julie Roberts and Richard Gere. Released almost a decade after "Pretty Woman," Julia Roberts plays Maggie Carpenter, a woman with a history of walking down the aisle and running away from her bride. When the story hits the newspapers, Ike Graham, played by Richard Gere, has to see for himself.

Not this time, of course. Maggie Carpenter, played by Julia Roberts, insists. All she knows is that she is going to marry her fiancé, Bob Kelly, played by Christopher Meloni. As is usual in romantic comedies, not everything goes as planned. Richard Gere and Julia Roberts play different characters in this film, but they have great chemistry together, making this one of the best romantic comedies available on Netflix. - NP

When the final episode of Sex and the City aired on HBO, it was the end of an era. The movie "Sex and the City," released four years later, was a tremendous treat for fans. Starring four women everyone knew, it focused on the marriage of Carrie Bradshaw and Big, and the lives and loves of her three friends, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte.

Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, is devastated when Big does not show up for the wedding. After her friends comfort her and Carrie begins to rebuild her life, the reason why Big did not show up is revealed. As the holiday season approaches, a romantic comedy that also makes a charming Christmas movie is a match made in heaven. With an all-star cast including Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, and Keira Knightley, "Love Actually" intersects nine love stories.

Throughout the film, Hugh Grant's narration focuses on the love we see in couples, friends, and family greeting each other in airport terminals, starting us off by telling us that "love is actually all around us." This sets the stage for the rest of the film and reminds us that there is all kinds of love in the world. We see it unfold in the film, in the rich characterization, humor, and romance. But what the film does so well is that not all romances are a walk in the park or end happily ever after. - NP

It's hard to believe that Peter Billingsley, the child star of the Christmas favorite A Christmas Story, had such a charming romantic comedy. In his directorial debut, "Couples Retreat," Billingsley has a cast of comedy stars that includes Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Jason Bateman, and Kristen Bell. When Jason Bateman's character of the same name and Kristen Bell's Cynthia tell their friends that they are having relationship problems, they ask their friends to join them at a couples therapy retreat, claiming that therapy sessions are optional.

When everyone arrives, they realize that couldn't be further from the truth. As they participate in the strange and hilarious activity, each couple realizes that all is not well with their marital bliss. Despite the romantic overtones, they realize that they are still in love with their significant others. - NP
