Streaming "Killers of the Flower Moon": when will it be available on Apple TV Plus?

Director Martin Scorsese is wowing moviegoers with his latest film, "To the Flower Moon," which opened in theaters on October 20. With an opening weekend gross of $44 million, the film failed to beat Taylor Swift's blockbuster: "Killers of the Flower Moon," although it did not match the $44 million weekend box office haul of the film "Taylor Swift: The Year's Tour." itself, it performed incredibly well. Especially considering the film's long running time of three and a half hours.

Still, this kind of cinematic epic might be better experienced by many moviegoers in the comfort of their own homes. Scorsese is a vocal advocate of the cinematic experience, but if you want to enjoy a movie with your own food and snacks and pause to go to the bathroom whenever you like, he would probably understand.

Scorsese's previous film, 2019's The Irishman, moved to Netflix. This time around, "The Flower Moon Killer" will be exclusive to Apple TV Plus. When will it appear on the streaming service? Here are our predictions.

Apple Studios financed and produced "Killer in the Flower Moon," but the tech giant is dealing with a different Scorsese film than previous films like the Oscar-winning "CODA."

Apple partnered with Paramount for the theatrical release of "Killer in the Flower Moon"; under the terms of that deal, reported by the New York Times and Bloomberg, the film cannot be streamed on Apple TV for at least 45 days.

Apple has similar deals with Sony Pictures for the Napoleon biopic and Universal Pictures for the spy film Argyle. Each studio will share marketing costs and distribution with Apple, as Paramount did for Killers of the Flower Moon.

Still, a 45-day window is not guaranteed, and one should not entirely count on "To the Flower Moon" streaming on Apple TV Plus on December 4. It depends on how well the theatrical release does.

Killers of the Flower Moon is estimated to cost between $200 and $250 million to produce, some of which Apple, with its deep pockets, will want to recoup. This summer, Oppenheimer showed that R-rated serious films can be hits, earning $942 million worldwide.

While the weekend box-office earnings were not that great, Scorsese's films tend to have a long shelf life. If Killers of the Flower Moon can continue to generate revenue in theaters for weeks, it may not be streamed on Apple TV Plus until mid to late December.
