New iPad release schedule leaked - it looks like we'll be waiting a while

"When will there be a new iPad?" This is a question we have all tried to answer through a litany of leaks and rumors. However, it is finally becoming clear that the next generation of Apple tablets will begin launching in March 2024.

This is from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who has a pretty good track record when it comes to Apple leaks. He has more than just the Cupertino crew announcing a new Apple Pencil with USB-C (remember last week when everyone thought they saw a new iPad? That was fun), the entire lineup will be revamped next spring.

According to Gurman, there will be "at least" three refreshed devices: the 11th generation iPad, the 7th generation iPad mini, and the 6th generation iPad Air. Updates to these devices appear to be small, including a change to USB-C on the iPad mini and a jump to M2 on the iPad Air.

However, Apple seems content with the practical slate form factor, so don't expect dramatic design changes to these products. In addition, Garman adds that along with these, the first-generation Apple Pencil with Lightning connector will be discontinued and there will be no more devices with that connector. [We've heard plenty of rumors about the next-generation iPad Pro, from an upgraded OLED display to a tweaked version of iPadOS 17 that will be more of a "prosumer" power station than ever before.

But when will we see it? This is a question no one can answer with any confidence yet, so let's use common sense. One leaker claims that the latest iPad Pro will feature the M3 Pro chipset; given that the M3 chip has yet to debut, we may have to wait a while for its Pro sibling.

It is reasonable to assume that Apple's Pro tablet will not be announced and released until late 2024. Along with the upgraded aluminum Magic Keyboard, it is hard to shake the impression that it will look more and more like a MacBook.
