The Google Pixel 8 arrived with an amazing array of new features, from generative AI image editing tools to the usual Google Assistant enhancements. However, Google seems to have confirmed that at least one of these features is not exclusive to the Pixel 8.

Google has now confirmed that the Google Assistant's multilingual input feature will be coming to the Pixel 7 in the near future. It is unclear when exactly this will happen, but it means that anyone who is rocking the 2022 Pixel flagship will be able to take advantage of this new feature without having to purchase at least the new $699 model.

The Pixel 7 has already made some advances in voice typing, supporting French, Spanish, and Italian. Essentially, anyone using Gboard can use Google Assistant to transcribe what they say; Pixel 8 takes it a step further and does not limit users to a single language at a time.

In other words, you can speak in any supporting language you like, and the phone's language processing will understand it from there. Therefore, while Google offers the option to manually toggle spoken language detection, there is no need to actually do this. For those who prefer voice input and regularly speak in more than one language, this could be a big time saver.

Given how useful this tool is for people, it is good to know that it is not limited to Pixel 8 hardware right now. In many cases, Pixel-specific functionality is tied to the latest Tensor chipset, so there is no small chance that it will be included in other devices, Pixel or not.

Nevertheless, stranger things have happened, like when Magic Eraser was offered to non-Pixel devices and even iPhones earlier this year.

While I don't know what the timeline is for when this feature will be included in the Pixel 7, I expect it to be part of the next feature addition. Regardless of how it ends up, it will be one less reason to replace the Pixel 7 with the Pixel 8.
