iOS 17.1 fixes various iPhone 15 issues, but does not fix this annoying bug

If you have an iPhone 15, you may have encountered the issue of the phone randomly turning off in the middle of the night. with the impending release of iOS 17.1, hopes were high that this issue might be resolved, but apparently not.

MacRumors forums are still experiencing problems with people running iOS 17.1 shutting down in the middle of the night. This is a pretty big problem since it interferes with alarms, silence notifications, and actually disrupts people trying to use their phones in the middle of the night.

The bug seems to affect everyone differently; some people's iPhones reboot immediately, while others lose power for several hours. Worst of all, most people don't realize this problem has occurred until they wake up the next day.

You can also head to the battery in the Settings app and check the charge status for the past 24 hours. If there is a blank in that data, it means that the phone was turned off during that time.

Unfortunately, there was no information on when this bug would be fixed, and some hoped that iOS 17.1 might be the solution. This is unfortunate for the first major update to Apple's latest iPhone software. That means iPhone 15 users will have to wait even longer until Apple stops randomly turning off their phones at night.

This means that those who rely on their cell phones to wake them up in the morning should have some sort of backup for the foreseeable future. My boss accepts my excuse for being late: "My phone is buggy and I have to go to ......." as an excuse for being late is only accepted a limited number of times.

However, iOS 17.1 fixes a bunch of other iPhone problems. A big one is reducing the amount of radiation emitted from the iPhone 12 which caused problems with French regulators. The release notes also suggest fixes for OLED burning and ghosting reported by several users, changes to Apple Music, StandBy mode controls, and more sophisticated controls for the iPhone 15 Pro's action buttons.

In addition to this, the 17.1 update should also see the arrival of the AirDrop feature first announced at WWDC. This includes a new AirDrop over the internet feature that will allow large file transfers to continue even after the iPhone is no longer in proximity.

So, progress is being made, but not much comfort for those worst affected by the shutdown bug. Hopefully Apple will get this resolved soon.
